| Quote: P-J "Why not? They're still paying both Dobson and Mason aren't they? It's their money to waste.'"
At the end of the day, this aspect of it doesn't bother me at all. What bothers me is that we weren't allowed to waste our money because it wasn't 'in the spirit' of the game.

| What about the spirit of the overseas quota?
The whole thing stinks, tongan passports, terminating dobbos contract (the rfl stated he was a free agent so therefore out of contract), registing mason, then changing thier minds and re-registering dobbo to play in a hull derby which he wasnt in the squad for but mason was (so i assume mason is a free agent as he cant be under contract with them ).
I wonder where this spirit of rules has gone now? or was that made up just to punnish Wigan?
either way it does make the RFL look like a spineless look the other way men..........

| Basically this would allow us to recruit as many overseas players as we wanted and the deregister them depending on our team selection that week.
Lets deregister Amos as he is out of favour and recruit Billy Slater........only the RFL.

Don't Dobson and Mason have to fit under their salary cap?

| Have to say I'm dont usually buy the 'RFL are against wigan' spouted on here.
But this issue has made me question the RFL big time. Posters on here are correct - if Wigan broke the spirit of the salary cap, then surely Hull KR have proken the spirit of the overseas quota rules?
At this moment in time Hull KR are paying both Mason and Dobson - hence they have one too many Aussies on the payroll (Mason still has an Aussie passport). The idea they can register / de-register players to ensure they have the max number of Aussies registered to play at any point in time, is a joke.
The RFL were quick to hand out the fines and points deductions when wigan deffered salary payments into the following season(s) so why are they allowing import quota rules to be twisted without the bat of an eye.
Sort it out RFL.

| I just think it stinks, if it was Wigan who'd done this all the other clubs would have been on the RFL's back to do something about it.
We were slaughtered, and correctly so, for busting the salary cap but in my opinion this is no different as it's against the spirit of the game.
I thought you could only de-register a player if they'd suffered a serious injury, Dobson was injured so I've no problem with that. What annoys me is that Mason is fully fit and available for selection but because his Tongan passport hasn't come through Hull KR have been allowed to de-register him & re-register Dobson.
The RFL are a farce and should have said to Hull KR that as Mason was fully fit they couldn't de-register him.
Anyway the floodgates will open now with other clubs doing the same and the RFL can't do a thing about it as the precident has already been set.

Not so.
Wigan didn't 'bust the cap'.
Wigan deffered payments into susequent fianancial years there by remaining under the cap (all be it with money owing to players which was scheduled to be payed in later year(s)).

OK, I may have got the terminology wrong but we did get a points deduction and copped a lot of flak for it. In my opinion this should be no different as it's against the spirit of the game. The RFL couldn't run a bath!

Exactly, hence why we got the mythical 'credit note' for 2007 and 2008 because they'd effectively counted the payments twice.

So what about the rest of his contract?
Surely that will count on the cap for the rest of this season and next.
Yes or no you salary cap experts!

yes, for this, but that wasnt the issue. They could afford him but not fit him into the quota.
