As he's pretty much agreed to join the Knights (Newcastle, not York before anyone wits), I'd suggest there's no mileage in it.

| Quote: Wigan/Leeds Andy "He had a reputation as one of the best potential coaches in the game, hence why he was recommended by both Bennett and Bellamy. Given this reputation and our need for new NRL type thinking it was still a risk worth taking, even with what we know now. He's helped us win our first title in 10 years and completely changed the culture of the club for the better.'"
It's worth repeating - he did not have a reputation as a first grade coach. Being a highly recommended assistant coach is no reason for IL to cow tow to exit clauses in contracts. For some reason you want to put him on a pedestal he was not on.
Quote: Wigan/Leeds Andy "It was pretty obvious the clause would be if an NRL coaching job came up, I can't imagine anyone would be thick enough to suggest otherwise. It's just unfortunately it's happened at this time. But like I've already said he wants an NRL gig and we'd have know that when he signed, and they don't come much bigger than the Rabbitohs.
Yes his ambition and drive have won us the title and changed the club for the better - that's how it's affected Wigan. If it's handled right there's no reason why we can't build on what he's achieved. If you employ up and coming talent there's always a risk they'll be in demand, and they know it.
I'm obviously a glass half full person.'"
Too many ifs and buts. There was clearly a three year plan in place. He even recruited as such and that job is now left unfinished. There is already speculation can Wane carry it on and if IL decides to look outside the club there is no reason to think the new coach will maintain the ethos we have seen. I think it far form unreasonable to be very disappointed in Maquires attitude to his contract and that he has put a spanner in the works of the way the club was moving forward. I am sure IL is not looking at a half full glass at this moment in time despite what kind of brave face he may put on any announcement. The way a bunch of inconsistent players was turned round under Madge was quite amazing and there has got to be a huge risk that they will revert to a Noble like level of play unless we are fortunate that Wane can make a seamless transition (if he gets the job). There would be no such concerns if Madge was decent enough to honour his contract in full. It ought to be business as usual this season but its anything but.

23997_1287161421.jpg
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg |

There has been no suggestion his family is unsettled here and if he takes the South's job it will be purely mercenary decision on his part. He doesn't need excuses making for him.'" Hasn't his mrs got something to do with the 2012 olympics?

Pretty much agreed, what does that officailly mean? Cant see Bennett saying anything until he has signed on the dotted line. He may do that of course, but the rumours still bubble.

Why would there be ? What weird scenarios are there to dream up about it? Either we have a watertight contract and Madge can't leave or we don't and he can and he is.

| Quote: wiganstripleL "do you not think it would be worse having him here next season if he doesnt want to be here?? the way your going on its like this is the first time something like this has happened at the club.. coaches come and go!'"
What I don't get is this idea he would not want to be here. He signs a three year contract with Wigan and moves half way round the world on that basis. Now if that were me I'd be pretty settled with the idea that is what I was going to do for the next three years and would not think I had just been given some sort of life sentence.
Now suppose a job offer comes along but I agreed a three year contract that I could jot get out of. I would be a complete idiot if I even entertained looking at the job offer. It would be even more stupid to go into a sulk and not do my job properly. "Come back in 18 months if you are still interested...Iv'e got a contract to see out" would make a refreshing change. You make your choices and stick by them or you will forever be looking for the greener grass and will easily be unsettled. Well you do if you are the kind of person who honours their commitments and doesn't negotiate contracts that makes it look like you never wanted to be here in the first place. He's been here no time at all to be wanting away.

Are you for real?
Is that what the world of business entails then? Everything in black and white? No room for negotiation? No legal or contractual wrangles of any description? All disputes being thrashed out straight away without any hitches?
Surely you at least accept that when complex contracts are under discussion you don't have to dream up 'weird scenarios'?
Dave, you're cheer-leading this blame-game at the moment, and frankly it's a bit pathetic considering all we know is that Souths might have made our coach an offer to go there for 2012.

What? We spent that entire era bemoaning how inconsistent we were.

I meant we were consistently at the top end of the table toward the end of the year. We always managed to get into the play offs and then have a good run.
However, our FORM was inconsistent not where we finished!

| If Maguire goes next season then its a no brainer give the job to Shaun Wane. No need to bring in another coach. Then give assistant to Radlinski. Promote from within rather than bring a new face. Done that way too often in the last 10-15 years for little success.

Radders doesn't want a managers job. He says as much in his book.
It has to be, and I think it will be going to Wane. An experienced number 2 wouldn't go wrong tho. Can't think of many off the top of my head but a quality number 2 is a must.
