Isn't Widdop a half? He was played at FB and looked pretty terrible.

Plus he wouldn't count against the quota, so it wouldn't be a bad move if he's got something about him.

Correct I'm still struggling to come to terms with "punching the air with delight and shouting 'go on' " whilst on a freebie sponsors do at the JJB when Chris Ashton scored the first try against Bradford ...

I had £5 on him to be first try scorer but cheering a wiganer like that made me feel filthy, I still have flash backs, i dont think I'll ever get over it ....a filthy disgusting act......

I think people are being harsh on Widdop. For me he was no worse or better than Sam during the 4 nations.

Neither him or Sam never really set the world alight yet they never really put a foot wrong. Its difficult for these guys to show there attacking flare when the whole team were limited to one man rugby tactics from a very poor coach.

Widdop is a great talent and Wigan would be mad not to consider him for a transfer that is right for both player and club.

if wigan signed widdop where would he play, would you put him straight into the first team but with roberts and tomkins were would he play fullback?looks like tomkins made that position his own or in the halve but you just signed finch and you got leuluai. so i think that not going to happen as you don't need a fullback or anyone in the halves.

You post in a thread on Joel Monaghan, and you describe cheering on Wigan as a "filthy disgusting act"?

Widdop can play every position in the back line, long term he will specialise in the halves, but he would be an outstanding player to have in the squad.

I could see both him and Sam swapping between the halves and fullback position. Leuleui will play at hooker and I think we could easily accommodate another half/utility back in the squad.

Quote: Pemps "But people are raving about him after never seeing him play. People want him because he's English and playing in the NRL. Mathers, K. Mason, Tansey, Thorman... See a pattern forming?'"

Widdop earned his rights coming through the system, he is probably along with Sam the best natural athlete in the backs that England have produced in some time.

I agree he was quiet in the 4 nations, but on the 4 nations showing you would have to say the Robinson is a better half than Tomkins.

I have seen enough of him in his first grade games, and also some of the Toyota Cup highlights to realise this lad has the potential to be an outstanding player. I am confident that he would have been a first team regular at most clubs in SL for a year or 2 now.

The names you mentioned would not have got near an NRL jumper had they been born in Australia and not been transferred over there, as a no risk signing.

I'll accept that off you as someone who has seen more than a handful of games from him but I struggle to see how anyone else can make a judgement on him.

1. Tomkins
6. Widdop
7. Finch
9. Leuluai

Would be good for the 2012 season. At the beginning of this season people are expecting Deacon to play alongside Finch, especially with Richards out so Roberts likely to start on the wing and Sam at 1. Roberts form while Richards is out will be very important as if he can recapture his early season form from this year he cant be left out of the team, so will either move back to full back with Sam reverting back to 6 or challenging Pat and Goulding for a place on the wing.

Sams best position seems to be full back which for me suggests that we will need to bring someone in for the 6 position in 2012, either from the youth set up or from another club. Widdop would definitely be a good option imo. Not seen a lot of him, only the England games hes played in, the 3 NRL games he played in last season and a highlights video on youtube of some of his Toyota Cup performances, but the guy does look class, and hes only 21.

2012 will be a year that hopefully will see Mellor make the step up to the 7 shirt, partnering Finch.

I think Mellor will get some game time next year as it is, and will be given a chance to earn his stripes for 2012, depending on how he recovers from his injury.

this lad, will be the next sam tomkins! a dream to have in the team, a nightmare for the opposition! mark my words!
i used to hate playing against him and that was when he played a year above his own age group!

brilliant rugby league mind!
