Quote: Rogues Gallery "Stats from the four hooker from Fridays game

Mike McIlorun
22 Tackles
1 Missed tackle
50 metres
1 Penalty

Mark Riddell
20 Tackles
1 Missed tackle
64 metres
0 Penalty

Jon Clarke
31 Tackles
1 Missed tackle
52 metres
0 Penalty

Mick Higham
23 Tackles
0 Missed tackle
26 metres
0 Penalty

So how does that make Riddell so poor in comparison to the other three.
Also Clarke played more "game" time as he moved to loose forward to accommodate Higham.

It's more like we must have a scapegoat, Mathers, Smith, Roberts, Riddell, Feka, Fielden.

No doubt Pryce will next in the "apprentice" firing line.'"

I know there's a phrase "lies, damn lies and statistics", but there's another phrase: "statistics don't lie".

These stats indicate that, while Riddell was not a stand-out hooker on Friday night, he wasn't off the pace compared to the other hookers. If anything, his contribution was reasonably impressive.

I can't help wondering, if yet again - Pat Richards and Craig Smith spring to mind - some Wigan fans are expecting too much too soon.

Not me. I said he was average before we signed him and those stats back this up. If stats are all you go by he is better than MH, sames as MM and worse than JC. Big deal. That's hardly the cream of the crop, is it? He is miles behind a host of others such as Randall, 2 at Saints and Leeds, Berrigan, etc.

His last season at Para saw him play 20 mins at the start then get replaced at hooker for the rest of the game by a rookie. He had to be content with a second 20 min spell in the second row. Says it all really IMO. Never mind, only another 3 and a half season then he will move on..... icon_sad.gif

This is the point. Riddel was never a world beater. He is doing what you can fairly expect of him, average showings. His fitness has always been an issue also.

But didn't Higham replace Jon Clarke on Friday and then come back at loose forward. That's why Clarkes stats were slightly better, he was on the pitch longer.
If you compare Riddells season stats with those of Diskin they are pretty favourable. I don't think he's been as poor as many on here have expressed, maybe people have expected too much, but I do think he's been an improvement on Higham, which is what we wanted.

Overall are you happy with Riddell or are you a little disappointed?

Unlucky icon_lol.gif

Overall yes I'm happy with his performances because it's better than what we had.
But I do think there is room for improvement, and I believe it will happen.

Back in his St George days he had a great running game. Sadly, this seems to have gone for good. Add this to the fact that he is quota when we have both TL and MM and it doesn't look too good a signing to me.

For my part, I'm disappointed. However, I'd give him a little longer before writing him off.

One thing that's definitely sharpened the focus on him is the emergence of Tommy L as a quality hooker. Suddenly we have three decent 9s in the squad, which frankly is one too many.

He is better than what had but that isn't saying much.

He is playing sub-standard and to level that I wouldn't call acceptable, but hopefully he'll turn that around before the end of the season.

Luckily, we've had McIlorum who has been playing well.

You keep banging on about the comparison between Riddell and Diskin, but I just don't get it.

I don't give a toss what Diskin does, I want Riddell to earn his keep, which he clearly isn't up to now.

Jack can you read?

I compared him at first with the other three hookers on Friday (two of whom Wigan have released), in which he came out o.k. probably top.

Then someone else posted that he didn't compare well with the two at St.Helens or the two at Leeds. I merely pointed out that his stats were as good if not better than Diskins.

Theres a common denominater here.'"

Noble. I claim my £5.
Even Mathers has improved. Great tackle on Tomkins probably won them the match.

Quote: Panda Antics "Been disappointed with Riddell thus far.

Thought he'd offer a lot more creativity, and hopefully have brought some plays with him from the Eels.

Unfortunately not. If/when Smith returns, I really can't see a spot for Riddell in the side.

In contrast, McIlorum is playing superbly well. His distribution from the PTB still needs slight improvement however his runs from dummy half and defensive work is unbelievably good.'"

top post. 100% agree especially about hopin for more creativity from piggy

True, but he must improve his disipline (although he's not alone in that).
