| Quote Wigg'n="Wigg'n"The spear tackle one confused me. If he didn't drive him into the ground and Delaney landed on his back/side, why was it still worthy of a penalty?'"
You can't lift the legs past the horizontal. Not a spear, just an illegal lift. Should have been a penalty, but nothing more. No reason for the disciplinary panel to be involved IMO.

| Yeah fair enough. Another bad call from Bentham then. I also thought there should've been a couple of sin-binnings. The grapple on Richards which is now an automatic yellow card (I think) and the late tackle on a Leeds player by O'Loughlin (I think it was). All old news now though.

| The Lima tackle should be a penalty by the letter of the law. I think the RFL are too cautious with tackles like that though. It was a good tackle and he had control of the player as he brought him down. There's no need to penalise a good tackle because it could have been dangerous had he done something differently. I wish they'd let those ones go and only penalise if they dump them on their head/neck/shoulders or if they drop them while doing it. Not that it's any real issue.

Meh. It was a tough game, both sides lining up some big hits. Sometimes the line was crossed, life goes on.
Not sure I've heard anywhere about grapples being an automatic yellow though? There has been at least one in every match I've seen this year I think, and I've yet to see anyone binned for it.

Disagree. The consequences of losing that control can be too serious. If you discourage people from getting into that situation to begin with, it can only be a good thing. It yields a few penalties in cases where there's no real intent, but the game's hard enough without risking neck injuries that way.

| I suppose that's the main reason why they don't allow the lifts. You see those types of tackles a lot in rugby union though and there doesn't seem to be much of a problem with them. I just think it's a shame you don't see them because there's a good tackling technique involved. As you say though, it's obviously a way of being better safe than sorry.

I read it earlier this year. I can only find a thread on TotalRL right now though.

Quote El DiabloJust to clarify a few points I was speaking to a mate of mine (who is a SL match official) and he told me that the following will sin-bin offences:
Wrestling holds
Crusher tackles
Grapple tackles
Twisting of limbs or limb
Attacking the standing legs of tackled players
Head slams
Dangerous kick charge downs
Dangerous shoulder charges
To be regarded as dangerous the conduct must have involved an unacceptable risk to the opposition player.'"

| Quote The Ginger Pearl="The Ginger Pearl"Sure I read somewhere that sam wont be investigated this week?'"
It's been alluded to in the press.
It's not a matter for the disciplinary, as it didn't really break any of the laws of the game. The Compliance board will look at it apparently at some point in the future.

Match review panel are looking at it but the compliance manager (Rob Hicks I believe) will be making a decision on whether he will be charge or whether the incident will be looked at later
Quote GuerrierBut the matter could yet be taken out of the club's hands if Tomkins is charged by the RFL, whose match review panel are due to look into the incident today.'"
