| Thurston to superleague...................
He's pulling everyones legs and his agent should be told where to stick it from every club in superleague.
As for Webb it'd be a risky signing imo but one we may have to take. It could be a sensational signing or an absolute nightmare but if theres no dead cert what do you do.
Saying that if he's got a criminal conviction we'd be struggling anyway.

He's not actually got a criminal conviction yet though has he? He's been charged of which he may well be acquitted, thus his criminal record should stay clean (if it already was clean).
However, it was the same with the Greg Bird case and look at how that turned out.

No worries,
a rumour started by Thurston's agent perhaps?

lets be honest, if the aussie press had Maurice Lyndsay over there contracts would shoot through the roof.
you would have thought that clubs would have learned that lesson by now?

| Is it that stupid.
By 2011 the quotas for overseas players will be reduced. That should allow clubs to bring in at least one top class overseas player, if they do their budgeting correctly.

But Thurstan would be throwing away his International and Origin careers. That would surely only happen for masses of lolly, which no-one over here can afford.
If he goes anywhere, it'll be to Union, but most likely he's stay where he is, on a much better contract.

Union will throw way more at him than either RL comp can, the only thing that will keep him in the code is rep rugby so that will totally discount SL as a realistic option.

For this reason, I doubt we will ever see players of his ilk in SL. It may also be that if, by some miracle we develop players of that calibre ourselves, we'll only see them for a season or two, and then they'll be off in the same direction.

Much depends on there suitability to union. Thurston is a player who has all the tools to switch with relative ease. On the other hand talk of Myler to union is way off the mrk as he simply would hve no natural position in that code.

I'd like us to go for Myler, but I'm not sure that it would work. Based on the assumption that Smith is leaving at the end of the year, would Myer, Tommy and Sam work well together?
Tommy's obviously not going anywhere, and neither is Riddell, so I can see Myler and Sam becoming keen rivals - which might have a negative impact, much the way it did with Edwards and Keith Holden. Whereas, if we replaced Smith with an experienced half who was only going to stay with us short-term, Sam might see himself as an apprentice and wait to take over.

And there's the rub. What is McIllorum's contract status? IMO it's a shame but he has to go (with hindsight we should never have signed Piggy).

Which is why I don't think Fein would be a bad option.
