| Quote jjb10="jjb10"I just don't like how Sam Tomkins gets smashed about & targeted & Eddie is laughing saying he is milking. Yet if he FOff to Union he is the 1st to kick off about players needing protection & leaving the sport.
I think the treatment Sam gets is nothing short of assualt on a weekly basis.'"
Exactly what I've said to my friends. It's no wonder we're 3 steps behind the Australians when we let our skillful players get mugged every week. Burrows gets flattened each too.
If Tomkins turned round and said "Actually I'm off to Union. I won't get assaulted each week and they'll pay me three times more" I don't think anyone could fault him.

| Quote SaintsFan="SaintsFan"It was the same in that Shenton went in third man to the side of his leg when it was in a standing position but Shenton wasn't quite as forceful. Still, since apparently the RFL is now targetting dangerous play with sinbins, it's a good idea not to practice dangerous tackles, and driving in hard to the side of a player's leg when in a standing position is a career-threatening move. I doubt Lima will get a ban for it. The RFL judged Shenton as sin bin sufficient, so that should be the case with Lima also.'"
I wouldn't hold my breath. He plays for Wigan after all, they'll give him a match ban.

| must admit, i'd support wire, saints etc before leeds and not due to the north west link.
leeds are a bunch of whingers and if they concentrated on their game they'd probably be looking a lot better and would have done over the last year or two as well.
which makes our point even more sweeter when i at first thought we were staring down the barrel of an embarrassing defeat.
on the whole though, the game is trying to protect players quite rightly as this is the modern way in business, sport or whatever. but at the cost of the qualities of the game, well, it's looking a bit ridiculous isn't it.

| As a neutral i thought at first it looked really bad last night, then after a replay or two its not that bad BUT its been highlighted that those kind of tackles are being looked closely and will be dealt with,Lima seemed to go in as 3rd man a lot last night so its maybe a case fo rthe coach to tell him to keep it higher and stop the players momentum.
I noticed on the Leeds forums that they are also moaning about Carmont on Haraki, but for me theres nowt in that one no intent or malice just accidental contact that happened to catch him right on the nose

definitely no intent on carmonts part, just an unlucky clash. he took it on the chin (nose!) and played on. no harm done and part and parcel for the game.

| I believe 'dangerous contact' includes grapple tackles. Would Bailey's stranglehold on Farrell be classed as a grapple? There is no question about intent in that one.

Not held, still moving, leg off the ground when Lima went into tackle.
What the feck is this game coming to??'"
What is so hard to understand...Lima drove his shoulder into an already held players legs, he makes no attempt whatsoever to make a tackle with his arms (as shown in that freeze frame he's dropped his "tackling" arm to drive in with the shoulder) - there is only one outcome if his technique (I shan't call it a tackle) had come off and that is a very very serious knee or leg injury.
As someone said on the VT, Lima could really have done pretty much anything else and it would have resulted in a completed dominant tackle without a penalty
It doesn't matter if Clarkson's leg is standing or if the first contact is above the knee - the intent was to cause injury and there is no need for that in the game. It was an absolutely cowardly attack.

Get over yourself. There was nothing wrong with it. The ref only noticed because Leeds had yet another of their tantrums to order - a bit like the end of last season, when they all ran in to try to disguise the fact that McGuire had injured himself while blatantly taking a guy out off the ball.

Ah yes, I remember that - clever how Piggy Riddle ran in and stood over McGuire to "disguise" how he had injured himself...oh wait which team did Riddle play for...

That is not what happened at all.
The whole Wigan team were seriously out to injure McGuire. It was a horrible assault in my opinion, the complete fault of the whole Wigan team, it was a disgrace, Wigan should not have won the title last year because all of our players should have been banned for that.

Yeah ... standing next to a player is the worst kind of assault you can commit.
So now we've got that and your mind-reading act with Lima.

Indeed. You obviously clearly don't understand what constitutes a held player. Here's a tip, if the player is still moving and the ref hasn't called
held, as what happened with Clarkson, he isn't held.

Ok bad choice of wording on my part he was not "Held" but he was "held" - i.e. he had two players holding onto him so was unaware and vunerable to the player coming in with the cheap shot from the side....now please try and re-read my post again without being minded to misinterpret my point on technicalities.
"Held" = as in ref calls held, tackle over.
"held" = being held onto (i.e. "held" in the same respect as Mozza was (i.e. defenseless) when Cassidy lost the plot and tried to break his jaw)

I blame Lima for not knowing his punctuation prior to going into the tackle.

Don't worry about it - it's the fad of the new season. No doubt the brainchild of some jobsworth at the RFL.
Like all the previous ones, they'll persist with it for a few weeks, then gradually realise how unworkable it is and casually start to forget about it.
In the meantime of course, the likes of Lee Briers, Jon Wilkin and the entire Leeds team will try to milk it for everything they can.
