Its ironic that Rage Against the Machine were popular when Peter Kay last told a funny joke. That song and whole concept was garbage, Killing in the Name Of is a great song.
As for Peter Kay should have retired after Phoenix Nights.

Except Dave S wrote most of the Phoenix Nights stuff, and Peter Kay and Paddy McGuinness have eaten out on that since.

Commercially it would have been insane, but for his legacy it would have made sense rather than churn out the garbage he has ever since.

| I concur
Although "Pheonix nights" was hysterical and "Paddy and Max" was funny (in parts). Peter Kay is the defintion of a one trick pony.
Slightly OT (can i be OT in the OT forum?)
Does anyone watch "The Thick of it"?.
possibly the funniest thing i have seen on telly in five years.

It was Peter Kay and the guy who played Rayvon who wrote most of it

Only a couple of week's ago while I was in Morrison's the guy in front of me's mobile phone went off with the same tune that was used by Dom Joly in trigger happy Tv, and my first thought was to shout " HELLO!!!! NAH IT'S RUBBISH!!!!"
I didn't of course, but does anyone else when hearing that tune imediatley think back to that show. I use to love Trigger Happy TV it was a great show.

| Paddy McGuinness isn't funny at all IMO. Just like a billy big b*llocks down the pub who thinks he's the funniest person ever.

| I'm not accusing anyone doing in this thread, but alot of people have jumped on the ''Peter Kay isn't funny any more'' bandwagon when really they probably think he is and are just too stubborn to admit it.
I wasn't a massive fan of Paddy and Max and he did go quiet for a bit, but he was good last night and he's done bits and bobs recently leading up to his new shows that have been pretty funny.

| The problem with PK, and I was a huge fan of his early stuff, in particular 'That Peter Kay Thing', is that he's done no new material for such a long time and his standup has been released in about 6 different packages but basically with the same routine. It makes him appear to be telling the same gags constantly and you'd get sick of more or less any comedian if you just saw the one stand up routine over and over. The proof of his quality is if he comes up with something decent in his new shows but I have to say I can't see why there was such a big clamour for tickets this time around. If he picks a random food item to declare his catchphrase this time I don't think I'll even bother picking up the first (of many) DVD releases of it.
As an aside there's a pretty funny micky take cartoon strip of him in the latest Viz - Peter Kayve Man. Primordial Soup??

| I agree mostly with JTB, he hasn't done anything new for a while and comedians like Michael McIntyre have come along and taken his "observational" comedy mantel.
I really hope his new stuff is funny, but after "cheesecake" followed "garlic bread", I will defer judgement for now.
