I agree with you.
I am an Everton fan (born in Everton, my family are Evertonians) but I a moved to Wigan when I was four.
I want Latics to do well and have been to the odd game at Springfield Park and at the DW.
The fact that some Latics fans hate Wigan RL is pathetic but two wrongs don't make a right. I will always support them as long as they are not playing Everton (and especially if they are playing that other team from Analfield).
It does the town of Wigan no good at all to have this bad feeling between the two sets of fans.

Sorry oh champion of all that is right and just. The majority of them laugh at us when we lose, tell us the town is turning blue etc, so now I get to chuckle at their expense. It's not like I'm hurting anybody or played any part in them going down. If they play so badly that giving them banter seems cruel it's their own look out. I do agree with the poster further up though, our hotel economy, which was booming since they got in the prem of course, will take a big hit

| Quote: Robbo "Regardless of what you think of whelan or latics, or where you're loyaltys lie, It is a sad day for the town after the highs of the weekend.
The town as a whole will lose out as a result. The championship will possibly attract smaller away crowds which I suspect the hotels will lose out as a consequence. plus we now have the likes of leeds and millwall fans to look forward to....'"
Wrong.
Leeds, Millwall, Forest, Derby, Burnley, Bolton. Will all bring a minimum of 4 thousand.
As for your dig at Millwall and Leeds, have a look at the "arrests" table for the 2012/2013 season and previous years before, the worst behaved supporters in this country are in the premiership. Manchester United being by far the worst, followed by Newcastle and ourselves, Tottenham and West Ham.
It wont effect "the town" at all.
I wont get in to how or why I hate them with such a passion because il bore you all to death. The Latics fans reaction if we win anything this year will speak volumes.
Happy days.

Get a grip! I’m not glad that the Latics are on the way down, and I was made up for them and the town at the weekend, but if like me you’ve ever been watching a Warriors away game in your local and have had to listen to the so called Latics fans cheer at every point that Wigan had scored against them, then it’s understandable that some who would have experienced the same thing might not be as forgiving as me, and I would definitely not call them pathetic!

Wrong. A few posters on a messageboard does not constitute a majority. There was one "one team in Wigan" flag at Wembley (and at Arsenal). I think the majority enjoy the town's success in whatever sporting event is taking place.
I don't think the crowds will suffer that much next season, as there are a lot of well-supported and/or local clubs in the CCC that will fill the North Stand (Bolton, Blackburn, Burnley, Leeds, Sheff Wed for starters). My guess is an average crowd somewhere between 13-15K, depending on how well they do.
I also think the clowns on Cockney Latic who take every opportunity to mock us may be somewhat quieter too - particularly as their messageboard crashed over the last few days!

To be fair that was more in reference to the Latics fans I've met, then again I'm 22 and moved from Wigan at 18 so perhaps attitudes have changed a bit since they were newly promoted and most people I talked to were teenagers. I know I'm not the only one with a poor impression of Latics fans though that's for sure

| Quote: Ranger "Thanks for the knowledge Geoff. No research needed now. I cant recall Tescos owning the club though. The whole of Wigan knows that the land was sold to them!!! This doesn't change my opinion on DW. Maybe he'll let you have a picture with the FA and Challenge Cup(fingers crossed) for sticking up for him. But he would probably charge you for that.'"
It was Jack Robinson who was in charge at the time and he turned down an offer from Dave Whelan for CP that would have seen Latics share the ground. I believe the reason Robinson turned the offer down had a lot to do with the terms of DW's eventual ownership in that the club would not get any revenues from food and beverage sales and ground advertising (or at least DW was going to take a big cut of both) and Robinson felt that this situation was not viable for Wigan RL. Ironically that is the situation we have now at the DW stadium.
It was Robinson's idea was to move to the Reebok having sold CP to Tesco to pay off the debts and Whelan was never going to move the club there.
Whelan wanted to buy CP and was furious when Robinson sold it before he could. Whether as Rouges said DW would have sold the ground anyway and built a new stadium is just speculation but the fact is it was Robinson who sold the ground to Tesco not Whelan and then eventually Whelan gained control of the club which is of course a completely separate thing.

| I was at the shareholders meeting in the Riverside when I saw Whelan at his worst. Jack Robinson was on stage and Whelan came in with a few "friends" and began shouting from the back of the room.
Robinson then asked Whelan to come up on stage and make his point, Whelan declined and continued to act as previously. Robinson again asked him to have the debate on stage and Whelan refused.
The shareholders then turned to Whelan and challenged him to go up on stage.
Whelan at this point turned and left the club.

Correct, except it wasn't just Robinson; Rathbone was also involved, though George Martin had already resigned by then. The two R's subsequently were forced to resign amidst allegations of vote-rigging. The shareholders, as I recall, voted massively in favour of the Whelan CP deal, but were overruled by the board.

Sadly you couldnt be more wrong! I wrote a Disseration on this exact subject (economic impact on a small industrial town of a relegation from the premier league) and the impact is massive! I could bore you to death with all the different ways in which the town will be adversely affected!

| Can't believe Whelan didn't even bother to go to the Arsenal game last night. Instead he chose to have a celebration with the FA Cup, on his own without the players, at the Wigan Youth Zone. The poor players haven't even had chance to celebrate with it yet.
