Quote: Cruncher "To be honest, only someone who doesn't understand the game would argue that Gleeson has been a poor buy for Wigan.

He had his brief brainfart moment earlier in the season, for which he paid his dues. But otherwise, he's been good to excellent in Wigan colours. He's tackled very strongly, shoring up a three-quarter line that looked suspect in defence in previous years, and his quality centre play has fitted in very well with Mike Maguires 'fast ball to the wings' style. All the lads who've appeared on the Wigan wings this year have scored pots and pots of tries, and Martin Gleeson has played a very full part in this. If the England mob want to ignore him, that's fine by me. It keeps him all the fresher for us.

When you consider that, in part-exchange, we managed to unload Richie Mathers, who has been extraordinarily poor in most of the Wire matches I've seen televised, we did an excellent bit of business. Even against Saints last weekend, when Wire gave what was generally a very good performance, I heard Mathers named at least once for a knock-on that led to a Saints try. Wire fans trying to argue that the opposite is true are either plain stupid or just trying to make the best of a bad job (and not succeeding).'"

A watertight post that sums up the situation perfectly.

Regards Charnley he seems to be a very exciting prospect that I feel should be loaned out next year but with a weeks recall notice should we have any injuries to our starting centres as he for me on his current showing he has earned the right to be considered as our first back up centre for 2011, and if he continues to perform has earned the right to take Georges shirt outright in 2012.

I don't think we will have a problem loaning him out. Hull KR will have him and if they won't have him, Crusaders, Salford, Cas, Wakey, Quins.... would be stupid not to take him on.

Quote: Mini Rogue "yawn yawn Wire troll has to derail a topic yet again that has nothing to do with Wire shock. Gleeson has been great this year and had an excellent game on Friday night, why you had to be so predictable and bring up Mathers winning something last year I have no idea because he's still a liability and will continue to do so no matter at which club he's at. If he's that great why aren't you keeping him? Gleeson is still contracted for next season. Having said that I'd be more than happy to see Charnley get a few chances next year whether its for us or continue his spell with KR, either way he has a bright future ahead of him and it will be with the Wigan club.'"

How did a "wire troll" derial it? I was praising Charnley and the club if you cared to read the initial post. As for replacing Gleeson, Charnley has been playing right centre hasn't he? It was a Wigan fan who then turned it into a dick measuring contest and started abusing Mathers. I even joked about his comedy forward rolls, he fulfilled a purpose in a position we had a need for. Would be a good idea to get your facts right first instead of having a pop for no reason.

Rubbish, you knew by bringing Gleeson into the topic that it would start the whole Mathers/Gleeson dispute in which you carried on posting further on about it and brought up the whole boring issue of him having a challenge cup winners medal. Charnley has been playing right centre but his main position is wing, only reason why Hull KR haven't used him as a winger is because that isn't where they have an injury crisis currently.

Quote: P-J "Of course they do, he's walked into their team at 19 and been a stand out player. There's no way Wigan let him leave permanently though. He oozes quality.'"

Only because all our centres and some wingers are out injured, otherwise he would of been sat doing naff all in your reserves - shouldnt you be loaning more of your players out to gain experience and show how good they are?

I for one would only play him until we have our players back, would rather give our players the experience of another season of playoff rugby, then your youngsters.

Most of them are, or have been except when we've needed to recall them because of our own injuries. Our current U20's side is made up of mostly U18 players.

Ben Davies has been superb for Widnes while on loan their from us. He's played a few games for Wigan on and off but I'd expect next year he may get more of a run.

Ben's certainly one to look out for, a prop with great feat and bags of energy.

Ah, no problem.
I'll let you buy me a beer in soccer sensations (I think that is what it is called) in three weeks and I'll give a little more info on the next Chanley type players coming through at Wigan. icon_biggrin.gif

Most are dual reg, rather than on loan. Ainscough, Davies & Marsh are probably the main ones.

Not at all. Seeing as I ain't a follower of Wigan's youth system is fair to assume that he'd be right centre in the future, not a mark on Gleeson at all. I think you need to stop being paranoid.
