| Quote Cruncher="Cruncher"But if he comes he's not coming as a superstar signing, is he. He's coming to coach and provide cover if we get an injury to one of our two (count them - [uonly two[/u) haflbacks. Do you think a megastar like Orford would be up for that?
I still don't see the problem with this, regardless of what people thought of Deacon at school, or what they thought of him at the peak of his playing days - because neither of those, to be honest, are relevant to this situation.'"
I dont have a problem with him at all certainly not if he is coming coaching, and if the cap can be applied pro rata to the amount of games he playes then good.
I dont want a superstar signing, just a prop will do, as we arnt lettig tommy go, so your right no superstar will come to play seccond fiddle to tommy and sam.
To be fair, most clubs would only have two full time half backs, however im fully prepared for everyone now to list the ones to the contrary!
Just dont rate deacon, never have. One trick pony for me.

| Quote ksm1701="ksm1701"If he comes to coach/mentor then it'll be a good move IMO.
If he's coming to possibly play and thus take up part of the cap then it's a waste of money.
If injuries did occur in the halves, I'd much rather see a player promoted from the reserves get a game than have a player possibly sit out most of the season except for a handful of games.
When he's not playing for the first team is he going to appear for the reserves? Surely he's a bit long in the tooth to go from playing first team at Bradford down a level for most of the season.
One thing that occurred to me is what would most fans on here be saying if Noble had stayed and this was announced?'"
Well Ian Lenagan is still here, and he's been in the firing line several times for his signings thus far. But people still, generally, seem to think that this move wouldn't be a bad one.
I think that to say "people wouldn't like this if Brian Noble had done it" is a little bit presumptuous and a little bit trite. It's also completely hypothetical. And it doesn't detract from what, on the surface, looks as if it could be a smart piece of thinking by all concerned.

It can't. Play one SL game and his full salary counts on the cap regardless of if he then spends the rest of the season coaching.

So? We will have and they won't. Will that not put us in a better position than them? Will that not make us more able to deal with an injury crisis?
More and more Wigan seem to be building a squad rather than a 17 man team. We'll now have cover, and good cover at that, for every position.

If he's coming as an assistant coach, he can't be earning megabucks and he can't expect megabucks either. Also if he's only acting as cover for the halfbacks then he can't expect to be earning decent money particularly if he's only going to get a few games. Obviously I'm not in a position to confirm his salary but that's how I'd imagine it panning out.

| Deacon may be past his best but he is not totally spent. If he joins us and registers as a player McIllorum might as well move out now IMO.

Why? How does signing a 7 threaten a 9?

If that's the case i'd say it's a good signing.

Not wanting to be an butt licker but, i do fear you are going to be a challenge to us next year.
