I think we need to be looking at a halfback partnership thats going to be together for a good number of years. We've had too much disruption in our halfs for years now so we need to be looking at younger players.
I'm not saying they can't be overseas players but just younger.

one or the other would be nice. although long term we would like to see myler and tomkins, that partnership would take time to blossom. a year deal for orford with an option of a second for these two to gain experience of would reap rewards in the long run. at this moment in time, bothe are prospects, neither are world class, and we have nobody world class for them to learn from

We also have Leuluai who we shouldn't forget.
To me we should be looking at getting a monster pack for Leuluai/Tomkins and another young-ish half to be working on the back of.

| Why not try to buy Myler then loan him back to Salford and bring in Orford or someone similar to partner Sam for a season or 2 while they both get more experience?

Or, don't buy Myler and just get him for free when his contract expires at the end of next year.
We do seem to be being quite presumptuous in assuming that Myler would want to come to a mid table team.

I doubt Myler would want to stay at Salford with other (bigger) ckubs interested in signing him so for me we will get him at the end of this season or never

In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

tommy is a hooker, and should be played as such. hopefully if nobby does go to the roosters the new man in charge will see this potential use him with mcilorum. i personally think piggy will go at end of season, ala trent barratt. having tomkins and orford would be fantastic, and when myler becomes available for at the end of 2010, fantastic. we have a future gb partnership at our our clubs, which could potentially top gregory and edwards ( although thats a big call at this stage of their careers )

| Quote: exiled Warrior "Given that both Myler and Tomkins would both have played a decent number of SL games by the end of this season I don't think experience would be an issue - we could do like Leeds did and allow a half-back parining to develop together. I just wonder if Myler could be tempted from Salford though.
If we did go down that route then if would leave a quota spot to sign a top quality prop from down under which would help any half-back pairing - we would also have the fall-back of Phelps,Gleeson or Lulu to slot into the 6 position as well.'"
Lets be honest, if they didn't click within 4 games there would be calls for one, if not both to be sold and to sack whoever the coach is at the time as 'he's rubbish'. We don't have that good a record with being patient.

| Quote: Father Ted "I'd rather us go for Myler than Fien. Myler will leave Salford end of 2009.
Clubs interested are us, Wire & Leeds.
Leeds, re-signed McGuire and Burrow on five year deals in 2008 so Myler will struggle there to command a regular first team place.
Wire, need a half back as Briers goes end of this year. They have the money to pay any transfer fee Salford may want. Would a born and bred Widnes lad want to play for Wire?
Wigan, we also need a half back as Smith is going home. We can pay any transfer fee Salford may want and he'd be coming to a bigger club with better support and better younger players than Wire have.
Salford will have a big say, McRae said they are short of money. They are also short of quality players. Wigan could do a deal of a player or two plus cash for Myler.
That to me would be the deal Salford would be looking for if they were to let Myler go whilst he's under contract rather than a straight cash only deal.'"
How do you know that the Leeds Rhinos are interested?, Is it gospel or is there a link around somewhere?...

| Out of interest how valuable do people see Myler as in terms of players you would be willing to swap?
eg. is he worth goulding and mossop, or goulding and o'carroll, or is he worth all 3 plus more?
I'd be in favour of offering any combination of Goulding, Hansen, Pryce, Roberts and O'Carrol if it meant getting Myler

| With Riddell here till 2011 and Michael McIlorum here for a long time as well moving Leuluai to hooker does not seem the case and we have signed him till 2012. So he will be used as a scrum half.
You would hope Tomkins will be used as a stand off when Tim Smith leaves at the end of the season - so I don't really see where another halfback fits in. Although I do think we need one.

Here lies the problem. Tommy as great as he is isnt a halfback.

| We need a another halfback after Smith leaves imo becasue the way the 3 halfs have been working in the same side together this year has been superb allowing Leuluai to shift to his most dangerous position of hooker.
To me somethings got to give with the McIlorum/Riddell situation and one of them will have to leave or bide their time in the reserves. That man on current form would be Riddell but with him having a long term deal it's a difficult situation and i could see McIlorum going out on loan for a season if we were to sign a halfback.

| If we are going to go on with Riddell, McIllorum, TL and Tomkins in our squad for next year i think we need to be looking for a young half not a 30+ player.
We could follow the model that Leeds did with Burrow and McGuire ie use TL as the senior half and bring Tomkins and the new signing through if need be together but slowly eg someone like Myler if he were available. Other thn tht i would like us to look at some of the younger 20 somethings in the NRL, players we could build along with Tomkins a strong prtnership over time not just this chop and change every 2 years. If we are to lose one of Piggy of McIllorum then we would be better going with an Orford of this world but i feel if we are going to run with these players next year a younger plyer would be a much better option.
