I'ts an obvious logic. However, for the umpteenth time..................
1. IF there was no CC, then small teams (such as Stains) would be unable to compete with larger teams such as Leeds or Wigan.
The "advantage" if you like, is that you are punching above your natural weight.
Now I have never called this an advantage. It's just an expression of fact. Scrap the CC and Stains would fall back into the middle of the pile.
That's why so many Stains fans are so supportive of the CC.'"
Ahhh yes that's why before a salary cap came in Leeds were so successful wasnt it?
I mean everybody knows Leeds 3 Championship's to our 7 before the start of Super league would suggest a major dominance wouldnt it?
If as you say it is the Primary reason, what stops the other so called "smaller" clubs such as Huddersfield, Hull e.t.c From winning the Super League?

| One thing you have to take into account when judging players from years ago and today is the ten metre rule. Of course there's different conditioning and all that but the skills are completely different. If the ten metre rule was abolished, todays halfbacks would get absolutely snotted and it would take years until we had players who were good enough to create a gap. Players from the past who possessed these skills would, with the right conditioning be amazing in Super League. And as for players being stronger and fitter today, obviously its a hypothetical argument but abolish substitutions and I know who my money would be on.

Well let's replace Leeds with Wigan shall we?
So that's the end of that argument.
With regard to Huddersfield and Hull...........
Actually I would seperate the two.
Huddersfield are a small club and Hull are a medium/big club (bigger than Stains imo)
Right. The CC "as was" ensured that big clubs were "pegged back", whilst small clubs could not compete. The relative beneficiaries were medium clubs such as Stains. Call it the "Goldilocks zone". Bigger clubs couldn't "outspend" them, smaller clubs couldn't compete.
The CC was a rule made in heaven for Stains.
The bizzare new CC.............I am not sure.........................time will tell.

Anyway, Adrian Lam. Cracking half back, very creative and always made you nervous when he had the ball. Jason Robinson was another, nobody could ever get hold of him.

| Quote XBrettKennyX="XBrettKennyX"Actually it's not that cut and dried though now is it?
He would get totally "owned" today.
Now a seperate argument is whether the "stars" of yesteryear could cope with the play today.
The reality is some would (e.g. Hanley) some would not (e.g. Gregory)
Frankly though. Johns at his best gives a FAR better display of RL than Murphy at his best.
b
Johns played vs Athletes. Murphy played vs Fat Barstewards.'"
The single most stupid post i have ever read on here. Congratulations.

| Quote XBrettKennyX="XBrettKennyX"Fair enough Rogues, but they would get their ar$es handed to them today.
Now, ofc it's difficult to compare across generations.
However, I feel that Hanley, Betts, Goodway, Bell
would easily slot into todays SL
I cannot say the same about the team you cited.
*shrugs*'"
Jesus!!! Going through this thread post by post, i seriously fot you, especially given your alleged great debating skills
I hope you are drunk as this is the most idiotic stance i have ever read on here.

I'd also agree with Cunningham, an outstanding professional who is class through and through.

| I suppose we can clearly say that players who played in the past are crap.
But the players of today ?
Well they are great.
