| Quote jonh="jonh"You know my opinions on Ainscough, just wondered what your thoughts were on something i have posted on another thread regards his attitude to playing at a lower level?
I feel he does not always enter the field in the right frame of mind for lower team competition. He is a hyped up kind of player to be at his best he needs to be bouncing up and down the sideline barking out the orders etc, from what i have seen in some reserve grade games he seems flat and this is when he fails to perform, i think he fails to sometimes be able to motivate himself for that level of comp, not something i condone but seems to me to be the case.
As someone who has seen him at that level much more than me would be interested to know your thoughts.'"
Jonh,
There are no problems with his enthusiasm even at reserve level. He makes me smile.
You can hear him shouting from the wing "give it to him, belt him" to his forwards.
He has been playing on the right wing in the reserves, and Wigan being very much a left sided team perhaps doesn't see as much ball.
Yesterday, he did have a poor game, missed a few tackles, let one ball bounce which almost resulted in a try, and threw a shocker of a pass that which resulted in us not scoring a try that would have wrapped up the match.
As a first team squad player, playing at a lower level he should be better than that.
However, on the plus side he took a couple of high kicks and ran the ball in enthusiastically.
He is still an exciting player and will come good, I have no doubt about that, but IMO he is third in line for the wing spot on current form.

I agree I do think Roberts has been good value of late and worth his spot.

| Quote Rogues Gallery="Rogues Gallery"Dave,
When I watch the reserves I expect first team squad players to appear to be better than the junior players, both for Wigan and the team they are playing against.
Pryce for all his laid back attitude does.
Sam Tomkins does.
Liam Farrell does.
Ainscough on the other hand doesn't.
From behind your pc you may wish to disagree, but don't try to belittle people who :-
a) disagree with you
b) watch lower grade (and enjoy it) and comment on what they see.
Come down and watch a few games, you may enjoy it, and then feel free to comment on players performances.'"
Personally I have found from the reserves that you take it all with a pinch of salt. It is a poor poor level of rugby and if they can stand out at that level it has no bearing on whether they will make it at Wigan or even SL level.
Obviously you get one or two like S Tomkins where it is obvious they are going to make it but I think overall it gives very little indication on how good the players are/can be.

I agree, but what I'm saying is that I've never seen a player who is poor at reserve level look to be good first team player.
That is the reason why I asked Lenagan about setting up a "scholarship" in Australia for our better youngsters. Let them get tested out there os loaned out to other SL / Div 1 clubs.

| Having watched the game again this afternoon, Pryce went well, he didn't do anything wrong and looked to me like a player with more game time under his belt who could do very well for us.
Certainly would like to see us persist with him instead of bringing Goulding back.
Looked for work, celebrated with team and looked to be fully focused on the job in hand.

| Get rid of Pryce and bring Goulding back. Goulding is twice the player Pryce will ever be IMHO.

If he was fitter then I would agree.

Just can't agree, Pryce's size makes him a huge asset if he can get a run of games and show some form. A weapon out wide that is difficult to stop when close to the line.
Goulding will be nothing more than another Aspinwall or Hodgson, a decent SL player and squad filler. Seems to have a good step and turn of pace, but too often makes the wrong decision with ball in hand and is lightweight in defence.

Pryce also has experience at the highest level even playing out of position in the 2005 WCC.

Pryce is lazy and looks un-interested. He has the size and power to be a world beater but his attitude is wrong.
Goulding does his best all the time, eager to get the ball and looking to stay alive to the play. He isn't the biggest but so what? His sheer heart and determination should see him through.
I'd be extremely disappointed if we kept Pryce and let go of Goulding.

So because you think Pryce looks uninterested he is? Thats big of you?
When was he lazy on Friday?
So Goulding tries hard, so did Tim Jonkers and Jordan James, should they still be at wigan? No, because they aren't good enough, the same can be applied to Goulding.

Goulding is good enough. Pryce isn't. Simple as that.
Pryce is lazy. Goulding isn't.
Tim Jonkers and Jordan James are nowhere near the player that Goulding is. TBH I'd put Pryce in the same category as them.
Garbage.
Pryce is a waste of money and a waste of time. Get rid.
