| Quote: cadoo "How much would beating Saints mean to me?
Of course it would mean a lot. Saints are our greatest rivals and any victory over Saints brings ecstasy to the Wigan RL masses.
But this game is so much more.
It's not just Saints we would beat. It would be our critics, the taunters, the people who laugh in the face of Wigan RL. The people who believe we are no longer a force. The people who think we are finished in RL. The people who think we will never reclaim our dominance in RL. The people who think we are no longer famous. The people who think we are cheats. The people who think the club is a disgrace. The people who spit vile envious bile every time our name is mentioned.
Saturdays game is not just 80 minutes of rugby league. It is a chance to bury the demons that this club has had to endure. It is a chance to banish the dark memories of the near relegation season. A chance to put to bed the fans who taunt we are no longer Wigan RL. A chance to rightfully put to bed the taunts that we are no longer the towns number one sport.
It is also a chance to build what Mike Gregory was trying to build. A chance to reclaim the passion shown by previous teams. Sean Edwards, Dean Bell, Andrew Farrell.
A chance to reclaim the big one. The major trophy. The trophy that has eluded us since 1998. A chance to put behind us the semi-final heartbreak at Widnes. A chance to put behind us the Gareth Hock saga. A chance to put behind us the poor form last year, to shut up the critics, to silence the WAFC public, a chance to silence the ones that claim we are no longer a top force.
Some say Wigan RL is not the club it was. We are not as strong as before.
But if we can come out of Saturdays game with a victory we will prove to the RL masses that we are stronger than ever before. That we are building a team capable of emulating previous great, great Wigan sides. A team capable of living up to the legends of Billy Boston, Sean Edwards and Andy Farrell. A team that will go out there every week fighting not against the opposition, no. A team that is fighting against the mere possibility of losing in a Wigan RL shirt. A team that is not just representing themselves. A team that is representing Wigan RL. A team that is representing everything that has made this great club what it is today.
Saturday's game is more than just a game. It is a chance to banish the horrors and the heartache of past seasons. A chance to rightfully put our name back up their as one of the top sides. A chance to repay the loyal, thousands of supporters that still turn up to get behind our lads every week.
Now I can't guarantee a Wigan win on Saturday. We all can't guarantee a Wigan win on Saturday. But one thing we can guarantee. Is that our lads wont go into battle with 17 men. No. That every supporter wears their heart on their sleeve and gets behind them boys like there is no f--kin tomorrow! To make sure that 17 men don't go onto the pitch alone. No. The 18th man is right behind them! All the way!
Saturday's game for me is a chance to be up their in an iconic moment of Wigan's history. Like the first challenge cup victory. Like the 1985 cup win over Hull. Like the victory in Brisbane when our boys were lining up to silence as our national anthem was played. Like the team that went and beat Manly. Like the team that won the challenge cup eight times in succession. Like the team that won the very first Grand Final. It would mark a turning point in the history of Wigan RL.
Saturday's game is more than just a game. It is a chance to turn things around.
Give it your all boys and make us all feckin proud!
COME ON WIGAN!!!!!!!!!!!'"
I was going to say that
Well ok, I wasn't but it pretty much sums everything up. Well done that man.

| It would be up there with my best memories as a Wigan supporter, of course we've been successful in the past but this would be much sweeter considering the long road we've travelled down since "The Great Escape" season.
All the best lads, do Wigan and more importantly yourselves proud.
PS I also want a win as Piggy has promised the fans a "Piggy Jiggy Jiggy" if we win!!

| The Pies are ridiculously giddy at the moment having reached a final for a change but are getting far to ahead of themselves talking about dominaton etc.
See how the big game goes first. Lets be honest the Saints team have far far more experiance of playing on the big stage.

| Quote: Tartan Saint "Wiganers on this thread, utterly hilarious.
Tomorrow is another Grand Final for St Helens, not some rebirth of a great club. Its terrific for Wigan to finally be back, that is obvious but dont try and proclaim that the entire game hates you and its the birth of an era of Wigan domination. It isnt. Its a 5th Grand Final in a row for Saints and its about time we win another. For Wigan its a welcome back. Its Sam Tomkins' first final and I expect he'll a hell of a lot more and hopefully against St Helens.
What tomorrow should herald is the welcoming of Wigan back to the top table and I do believe that certainly over next year and probably years following a serious and genuine rivalry between the 2 clubs. No more 75 - 0 for a while I dont think. Both clubs have dominated the sport over a large number of years and I suspect we will do for a good few more.'"
Again, stop being so bloody soft.
Your non-underlined comments prove there is a genuine RL fan inside you trying to get out. But the underlined bits suggest that you still need to man up and push that snidey, small-dicked troll down where he belongs.
Wigan fans are going to enjoy this weekend whatever the result. Do you know why? ... because four years ago they were down and out, a busted flush, the whipping boys for the entire game. Even if you lick us tomorrow, it's been a fabulous season for Wigan RL given that so recently they were cannon fodder for even the crappest that SL had to offer.
The clean sweep at the MOS awards was some indicator that the real intelligensia of the game - the players, not Stevo and a quango of Yorkshire journalists - feel they are going the right way.
That's a success story. If you don't like it, tough ... stay away. Just stop trying to give us the benefit of advice that we didn't ask for and don't need because, frankly, it comes from someone who, even in his dreams, hasn't even got close to some of the things we have experienced.
I'm sorry if that ended on a harsh note, but you've been an idiot quite a lot tonight, and you needed slapping down.

I'll ignore your opening defensive quotation, as seems so often with you Cruncher. I shall answer your other paragraphs in seperate paragraphs myself, as I simply cannot be bothered with quoting at this time.
Whether you like it or not, today is another GF for St Helens and we are due to win another. That is not to say we will win but after 3 losses I hope the Gods are on our side. The other points are simply answering the points made by Wiganers. I have read Wigan fans on here claiming that today is the chance for Wigan to 'emulate the greats' and that every other club hates you. They dont and that is my point.
Your second paragraph is entirely correct and I dont blame you. If I'd gone through the same thing as a Saints supporter then I would be enjoying the Grand Final as well.
The MOS awards were correct. Richards has clearly been the best player this season and Tomkins the best youngster. I do think Smith had a chance as best coach but again no arguments with MaGuire. He seems to have brought a new defensive approach to SL.
I am not giving any advice Cruncher. This is a public forum where views are entitled to be given, yours as much as mine. Cruncher, I have been a St Helens supporter since I was 5 years old and followed them since the early 1980s. I know full well what winning means to us because I watched you dominate the game, unprofessionally, for years. Lets not pretend that today means more to you than me because frankly, it doesnt.
Cruncher, the only person capable of 'slapping me down' is my wife. I played rugby in St Helens and I now play Union (blasphemy I know) in Scotland. Lets not play the internet hardman and pretend that you're some kind of gospel on the game when your posts clearly show that you are far from it.

Like your relegation in the early 80s and your subsequent 3,000 crowds.

| This a thread titled "What does it mean to you?" on the Wigan board, and we've got saints fans telling us we're wrong?
Firstly this is a thread asking for the views of Wigan fans, not asking for Saints fans to come and tell us that we are talking cr@p. Secondly if it means something to us, if to someone it suggests another era of dominance (i'm not saying I do or do not agree) then you cannot tell them they are wrong, it's not a statment of fact but an opinion.
Of course us Wigan fans are getting excited, after the last few years this IS a big deal, we HAVE come a long way, and we WILL be giddy and enjoy it!

And still your tone is idiotic ... and a bit defensive and soppy.
You're taking it personally that Wigan fans are giddy that they're in the Grand Final. The fact that you're even on here, instead of trumpeting your own strengths on your own board, is proof of this.
For Heaven's sake, what do you expect?
If this is the way you react to Wigan fans celebrating that they're in the final, I dread to think how you'd react if they actually won it.
Man up.

This is 2 threads now Cruncher where I shall give up on you. You have proved yourself twice to be totally unable to take on board the points made by myself and twice attempted to make yourself look like some intelligent poster. The reality is that you have failed big time. If you want to post to myself, please post intelligent responses which at the very least, answer my points. If not, then enjoy the game and may the best team win.
