Strange - seems a fully decent move by Whelan on the face of it.

Perhaps he realised quite how bad the feeling towards him from half of Wigan was and decided to rectify it, but without doubt a stand will be named after someone from Latics as well.

To be absolutely honest though - joking apart - he's really going to struggle to find someone who's known outside Latic fanatic circles.

If they choose some complete non-entity, or someone who was better known for playing at other clubs, it's going to invite hilarity from visiting footie fans.
