| Quote: bikerpie "We need another Faz to lead this current leaderless team.'"
I know what you mean, but players of his quality come along very rarely - in the modern era as far as British players go I'd rate only Hanley above him and only Cunningham at the same level, and neither made the consistent level of contribution of such a long period as Faz. And that's just talking about Faz as a player. As a leader he was superb. That famous game against Leeds epitomised everything Faz stood for. He was an immense talent and a great leader. A man who seemed to personify the strength and power of the Wigan club and its utter desire to win (which is why he was the target of so much unjustified criticism from the anti-Wigan mob, instead of being celebrated as a giant of British sport). All that strength, power and desire seemed to ebb away when he left; only then was it apparent how much he had been carrying the team.
It could be decades before we see anyone have the same impact in the British game.
I remember watching him break into the great Wigan side of the early 90s. Even as a teenager in that great team he looked special and people were very excited about his potential.
I think no-one could deny that he fulfilled all that promise.
He was a fantastic servant to the greatest club in the game.
The comparison with Lockers is a harsh one, but that's not Lockers' fault really. Faz was a better player and captain than anyone in currently in SL, by a country mile.
We need to get behind our current captain tomorrow night. Come on Wigan!

| Great player for Wigan,Remember a performance against Leeds i think when his nose was all over the place, did*nt stop him though...In his pomp as skipper he would be just the sort of player Wigan needs now,,can always remember him giving out rollikings behind the sticks...

| It seems like he's staying in Rugby Union in a coaching role at Saracens. What is it with Wigan legends staying in Union?

| I thought that he had retired 4 years ago .
Indeed I was told that he was about to retire in League due to all the injuries that he was getting and then he was made a big offer to join Union, an offer which he understandably couldnt refuse. At least he made plenty of money out of it.

He wrote a very complimentary piece on State of Origin about a year ago.

| As today is derby day, got me thinking about that all-in brawl at Saints a few years back (2003?) that ended with Faz shouting "Scully you sh*t house".
Another quality moment from the man!

| Just seen Faz at the JJB, great to see him back home. Don't understand how anyone can criticise him for not being interested in Wigan.

Tony Clubb: "This is a new exciting chapter of my life signing for Wigan and I couldn't be happier" 18/10/2013
Romain Navarrete: āIām very happy to have signed for Wigan Warriors. As soon I knew that Wigan were interested, they were the only team that I wanted to sign for. To me, Wigan is the biggest Club in Rugby League and it will be an honour to pull on the famous Cherry-and-White jersey next year. I look forward to working with Shaun Wane and the players at Wigan.ā:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10172.jpg |
