| Quote: RB "O'Loughlin plays 80 minutes. Higham played 40-50.'"
Higham is involved in virtually every set of 6 for those 40-50 mins, O'Loughlin maybe only one or two per set of 6. Whoever is at the PTB is likely over the course of a game to make more mistakes, its the nature of the game. Personally, I think Higham is having a good season, and won another MoM award this weekend. Ok, he has limitations, but to swap him for Riddell seems ludicrous.

| Quote: exiled Warrior "Given that both Myler and Tomkins would both have played a decent number of SL games by the end of this season I don't think experience would be an issue - we could do like Leeds did and allow a half-back parining to develop together. I just wonder if Myler could be tempted from Salford though.
If we did go down that route then if would leave a quota spot to sign a top quality prop from down under which would help any half-back pairing - we would also have the fall-back of Phelps,Gleeson or Lulu to slot into the 6 position as well.'"
But Leeds also had Andrew Dunaman as cover, and he kept either Burrow or McGuire out of the team for long spells.
It would be a big risk IMO to have Sam and Myler as our starting halfbacks. Remember we tried this with Robinson and Brown.
IF we are going to sign an other halfback I'd like it to be a good experienced player around 26 to 28 years old.
I know we were looking at a current test half back (and it wasn't Lockyer)

Yet the other hooker who was alternating with him didn't have a similar error rate! Strange, no? Also he continues to be the most error prone hoker in SL. Strange, no?
Look, I'm not anti-Higham. I thought he was a dedicated club man and always gave his all for Wigan. He was, however, prone to errors and giving penalties unneccessarily.

| Quote: Phuzzy "Dave, you must kniow you can't make that comparison! O'Loughlin playing 80 mins and Higham playing 40-50 are completely different beasts. If you're getting rest and coming back on fresh then you should make less mistakes, not be comparable! Apart from which, O'Loughlin is consistently our top (or close to it) tackler in every game, and as such is liable to make more errors. If you're going to use those statistics at least add 'tackles made' to the list to give it some balance. You say you aren't having a pop at O'Loughlin, but you never fail to bring his name up if there is a chance to (as you see it) present him in a negative light! I thought it telling that in the recent top 3 of the season you were the only person not to name O'Loughlin...most had him at the top. Go figure...'"
The original point was simply Higham made too many errors and gave too many penalties away so he was poor. I can point to Wigan players who make more errors than he does so all I am saying is it is double standards.
Your post is no different because you have dreamt up an excuse for Lockers errors but I am sure there are other 80 minute players in the league besides him who didn't make as many errors or give away as many penalties. Why can't you accept it was a poor performance rather than dream up excuses?
Only one player made more errors than Lockers in the entire SL in 2007 - Solamoa with 37 to Lockers 36.
And in that year Hock gave 27 penalties away with Lockers on 26 which placed then 5th and 6th in the table. Coley was worst that year on 35 playing for Salford.
No matter which way you look at it these are bad statistics but no one uses them to beat these players up but instead they dream up excuses for them. Double standards.
Dave

And we would have Tommy as a backup/alternative so it could work (and I think Tomkins and Myler would be much better than Robinson and Brown anyway). An experieinced half-back would be a good option but only if it is someone we could get a few years out of - we have had too many short term HBs in recent years
If as you say we are looking at someone of that quality and age then fair enough assuming we can get them AND they are here for more than a season or two a la Barrett.

Dave, you've done it again. All the players you are comparing him with only play part of the game. There isn't an 80 min player among them! That makes his stats good by comparison! I'm not saying they are as good as I (or I'm sure, he) would like, but your comparisons are doing the opposite of what you intend. It's only your own double standards that prevent you seeing this!

Isn't he like a jack of all trades, master of none?
I think I would prefer Tommy as hooker before Fien.
