It's speculation of course but i've seen nothing from Lenagan so far to suggest that it won't happen.
I'm not knocking him by the way. He has his way of doing things that he thinks are right and the proof will be in the pudding. I'd like to see things move faster in certain areas so the club can be more settled going from season to season but it looks unlikely.

To be honest, we've seen nothing from IL to suggest anything.
It would be good if certain things sped along more quickly, but with the play-offs now looming, I don't think replacing our coach should be one of them.

| For Wire their season is over on Sunday as they are very unlikely to make the play offs. They beat Quins, parade the C Cup and everyone goes home happy.
As for us, we're in the play offs whether we finish fifth or sixth has yet to be decided. We have to keep the coach and squad together so no announcements are likely to be made yet a while.
Also if our new coach is an Aussie or Kiwi they may be involved in the play offs down under. Being linked with Wigan is the last thing an NRL coach will want with the play offs for the next few weeks.
Noble may well go and the Celtic rumour could well be true. He could also take some of our players on loan to his new club which would be to the advantage of all concerned.

| Quote: Cruncher "But all things considered, can you see any advantage to Wigan in the new man being announced now, and the press starting yakking about it, and the message boards filling up with it - while in the background Brian Noble, who's suddenly yesterday's man, is trying to prepare the team for the most important three weeks of the season?
However people want to spin it - even if it's an amicable arrangement with Noble, which I suspect it won't be - I feel it would be one big distraction.'"
It is one big distraction as it is with constant speculation. You don't need to spin it to see that, look at this thread.
I can't believe the issue has not been decided by now and that Noble does not know.
If he is staying then there is no reason for it not to be announced.
If he is going to be leaving he already knows he is yesterdays man and is preparing the team regardless as I would expect him to do. What difference would it make if this were public knowledge? The new coach is for next season not now and it's Nobles team until November when his contract runs out. It makes no odds if we [iknow[/i the new coach was to be Hasler or if we speculate it is to be Hasler, the merits of appointing him get discussed either way.
The message boards already ARE filling up ..... with speculation look at this thread. The press mention it and Sky mention the fact his future remains undecided etc. Meanwhile Noble has to be evasive if asked about it. IL is also evasive if put on the spot.
So yes I can see an advantage of announcing it. It cuts out all the crap in the underlined text above as we enter the play offs. Instead of speculation about Noble the air is cleared and everyone knows where they stand.
Every man and has dog thinks he is leaving so rather than continue with the above, announce it. If everyone is wrong and he is staying, announce it. Certainty is always better than uncertainty IMO.

That would be ironic. A coach who is criticised for not playing the younger players and sticking with established players regardless of form takes those self same young players on loan.

Clearly the club has a different opinion.
If announcing the new coach, and heralding a new age of press questions to Noble about what it's like to be fired off by Wigan and where's he going next year, etc (right at the time when he should be preparing the team for the play-offs) distracts him only a little bit from what he should be doing - then it's a mistake IMO. Especially when the alternative is waiting only a couple of weeks longer.

I'm with you on this Cruncher. And, it may be that Noble is the one who is leaving Wigan, not Wigan who are firing off Noble.

To be honest, I heard that it was a possibility, but that Wigan weren't interested. I just hope that means they've got someone better lined up.
