I know that many clubs fans would find it hard to understand why we are in such a panic at being only 3 points off the top but you have to realise this is the famous Warrington RLFC and we have high standards and high expectations and the fans expect the best.
Wigan fans probably overrate us slightly because we generally beat you but sometimes when we come up against the top teams like Saints and Leeds they give us problems so we need to up our game and this has been troubling our fans at the moment hence Wigan have not been top of our thoughts but hopefully by the time we have hit our form you guys can have got your act together under Shaun Wane and you can hopefully give us a competitive game which is what we all want.'"
tell the golden oldies not to waste 1 of the 3 good performances they have left in them . warrington raise against us and we roll the teams they struggle against funny isn't it
(it has been boring since wire fans realised their players arn't up to a full season)

Its all one big bite mate.
Sally is perhaps more subtle that others, but the intention is still there to grab fishies

Thats because beating Wigan is like beating Man United it's the only team where there is an honour (implied by history) that goes over and above the 2 points you get from a league game. Nobody gets that excited about beating Saints or Leeds, even when we won our first game against Saints for 50 years or whatever it was it was a bit of an anticlimax.
Also Wigan still being a good side makes it more credible, it's not like beating the West Indies at cricket, say, where everybody knows that it's nothing like beating them in the 1980s and early 1990s because they have gone totally crap now so it devalues the honour. Wigan are still a side that challenges for and wins trophies so although it's not the same as beating the Wigan team with Edwards, Hanley and Bell in (in fairness Warrington had a decent record in head-to-heads against them compared to most teams), it still feels like it has that credibility.
Over the years since the 1990s I wonder how much that has actually counted against Wigan, in that teams will be more motivated to get one over Wigan than they would Saints, Leeds or Bradford (or us nowadays), it has probably made your task harder.

I'd argue against that a bit. A few years ago when Wigan were having a right struggle, there wasn't much 'honour' in beating them. You wanted to beat them cos it's a local derby not because of their history. Just because Liverpool were good in the 70's/80's it doesn't mean there's honour when you beat them.
So when Saints were winning Grand Finals (Bloody hell that seems a long time ago) would you as a Warrington fan have found more glory in beating Wigan than us?
Just to add, it was an anticlimax for you because you weren't beating a Saints side in there prime.

| That is a fair point, it would have been more of a big deal to beat a Saints team with Cunningham, Long and Scully in it, however on the historical angle although Saints had a great side they weren't quite what the pies were in their glory days, they had to share trophies with Bradford and Leeds, so even back then if it was a case of would we have preferred to beat Saints or Wigan, the answer may have been Wigan for most Warrington fans. It's like in football going back to the mid 2000s when Chelsea had Mourinho and Arsenal were in their prime, I bet most football fans would rather their team beat United than Chelsea or Arsenal even though United had slipped behind them in the pecking order.
Our results against Wigan started to improve after we moved to the HJ, out of the last 20 games between us we've won 13 and Wigan won 7. The first of those was in 2004 when Nat Wood scored a hat-trick and one of the tries he ran into the stand to get a hot dog to celebrate, and that win had honour to it because the pies had Radlinski, Connolly, Dallas, Lam, O'Connor, Farrell, Craig Smith etc in their team. Then the next year we beat them when they had Millward in charge, at the start of teh 2006 season but although they were totally crap at that time, Millward had made a number of big signings and people thought they would do well and Millward still had super coach reputation, so again it was fun to have one over on them. But you are right that by the time Noble had taken over and they were marooned at the bottom of the table it felt like wtf is happening and if they had stayed in a rut for a long time the honour would have gone. When Noble was Wigan's coach we generally beat them and it was obvious they weren't the team of old but they still used to finish above us in the table and Noble had a big reputation so it still felt good to us.

Almost right. Man United are a big club but not quite successful enough.
Beating Wigan is like beating Real Madrid or Barca.
Tomkins is our Messi, Farrell our Zidane, Offiah our Ronaldo, Hanley our Laudrup and Boston our Di Stefano.
I could go on, but I think I've made my point already.
