| Only one large gap in the West stand plus a few lesser gaps in North and East. Thought 23k was about right. We had the England band behind us in the North Stand and I'm sure if England had started with a bit more heart and got the crowd behind them the atmosphere would have been a lot livelier. Although to be honest, all things considered I didn't think the vocal support was that bad.

| Quote: Cruncher "Personally, I think the DW Stadium can be deceptive. There have been many matches at Wigan where I've thought the attendance has been either larger or smaller than the offical version.
One thing that always throws you is the North Stand. For most of Wigan's home games, the North Stand is only about a quarter full, and we tend to make all our guestimates based on this.
Don't underestimate those rare occasions - like yesterday - when the North Stand is full. That can throw your calculations out significantly.'"
Except it wasn't. A good 500-750 off capacity.
For that game to be 23,000 it would have needed the North, South and East to have been 100% sold out, cause there was a good 2000 short in the West Stand.
Someone at the RFL is telling porkies!

My thoughts exactly. I just saw two humungous holes on the stand opposite me (West) and some smaller bits and pieces here and there but overall it looked busy enough and, as you say, the atmosphere would have been a lot better had England played in the first half! We were definitely making noise in the second half but by that time I think the bands had lost heart!

| What was the reason behind the traffic problems yesterday. Coming from Warrington I thought 2 hrs would be plenty whereas in practice I only just made it. Is it the same every week?

| Well where I was sat in the North was packed, and the atmosphere was great. Oh, it went a little flat when we were getting tonked but all in all I had a great day, plenty of singing and shouting.

Yep! The saddle junction down to the stadium is a pain in the , and traffic ends up often being backed up towards Sainsbury's. The traffic coming from the direction of the Town centre was shocking too, but that's purely because of the bottle neck on the other side of the saddle junction. Traffic was backed up from there all the way up to the magistrates courts.

| After being at the game there didnt look 23k inside that groung yesterday but why does the band go in the north stand as the supporters know its the away end and maybe better if they was in the south to try and create some kind of atmosphere as it was the worst for amosphere since we have been staging games there for a test match.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

Think that's going a [ibit[/i far, don't you? As mentioned already on this thread, it was quite a decent atmosphere in the North Stand.

| I was in the North stand and couldn't understand people bagging the atmosphere. We were sat near the band and it was pretty good in there.

| Never 23k on. But i'd imagine that all the free tickets sent out to Local Amateur Clubs were counted also, which would account for the big gaps in large blocks of certain stands. 23k tickets may have been dispatched, but never 23k in the ground. The atmosphere wasnt that bad - pretty flat at the end of the first half in a very 'Oh here we go again' mood. But midway through the second half everything perked up and I actually enjoyed my day. If we'd have competed in the first half we may have won.

| I think the problem was everyone went in the ends of the ground and the sidelines were scattered about. They charged far too much for the touchline stands.
