We have what's in the company accounts ie. no ground to sell to housing firms like other clubs have.'"
We own the ground at Orrel and the land is quite valuable so we do have some collateral. However as I explained already I can't see us wanting to move for years if ever so it doesn't matter too much.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| I've said it on here before, when 90% of the fans and our very own chairman dismiss the idea immediately, there is no chance it will ever happen

| On a serious, if somewhat hopeful note, I'd love to see us buy a stake in the ground and convert the South or East Stand (or both) to the kind of terraces that they have in German football grounds (they can be converted to seats for European games which require all-seated stadia). I'm surprised no Rugby/Football groundshare in this country has tried it.

| I don't think the JJB will ever really feel like home because we're being forced to share it with people we basically don't like. But at the end of the day it's a serviceable stadium, we've got a very good deal on it and the lease ensures that we can't be shown the door for 50-odd years or whatever it is without pocketing some very hefty compensation. Now that Whelan's finally laid a proper pitch, that issue has dried up as well.
The main problem as I see it is Whelan's elastic definition of what constitutes a fixture clash. This is bound to come back to haunt us again at some point, but as others have said, once Latics get relegated there'll be significantly less pressure on us to be the ones to make way.

| Quote: wiganermike "IL has stated a few times publicly that the lease terms are very good for Wigan at Robin Park so he is not looking at building a stadium of our own as he sees no need to.
Unless Latics want us out of the stadium and give us a lot of money as compensation for the remaining lease period I can't see us going anywhere for many years if at all. Treatment of Wigan RLFC will change when 1) Whelan sells up and 2) Latics start to fall down the leagues (inevitable despite what Latics fans may think - they don't have the reputation to attract wealthy owners from outside Wigan or infrastructure to stay where they are without a sugar daddy).'"
When the inevitable happens and Latics get relegated/lose DW's backing the rugby club will be able to negotiate a better deal; the football club's bargaining power will be massively reduced, they will really need us then. I think IL realises that all we have to do is be patient.
A proper 50/50 groundshare arrangement with neither club having priority is not something I'd have a problem with. To be honest I'd rather have that than a smaller stadium that was Wigan RL's own but which couldn't cope with the crowds for the big matches.

I agree. I'm not overly impressed by these smaller, plastikit stadia. Let's be honest, Warrington's feels claustrophobic. And given the recession, I'm sure Saints will end up with something similar.

| unless there is a vast oil or gas field under the clubhouse at orrell, then i doubt the club would be able to afford to build a new stadium ...
so that leaves multimillionaire benefactors with an interest in sport ... mike ashley anyone ?

| On the whole I'm happy with us owning our training ground/office facilities and using the DW stadium for matchdays. Because that's what happens. DW is not our home. It's simply a decent, modern ground where we play our home games. What's wrong with that?

I will also buy SBW, Burgess, Morley, Lockyer and Slater.
And Edwards as coach with Farrell as his assistant.
Have you forgot we operate a SC i no its wishfull thinking about the players but the ground/stadium who knows if a die hard WRL fan was to ever win it.

Nothing as long as it's made available when we want to play. That play off farce last year was just blatant pettiness from Whelan.

Well, we made our bed and we have to lie in it, sadly.

Couldn't agree more, its on ok stadium, but just doesn't do it for me, have hated it since day one, its nothing to do with the sharing, got a foot in both camps and would have loved the original ground share at Central Park to have come to fruition.
I do think its the terrace I miss most, just being able to pitch up on a whim and know you can wander to a certain spot and be surrounded by mates is what I miss most.
Still can't see anything changing.
