It certainly wasn’t a lazy arm. I’d say the grading is based on the swinging arm direct to the head was off the ball.

Spot on.
He weighed him up and then smashed an unprotected guy in the mush.
The guy didn’t even have the ball.
Irrespective of the ankle injury he should be facing a lengthy ban.
If Smithies had done that RedVee would be calling for the death sentence.

I’d call it a ‘sly arm’ and definitely deliberate.

| I don’t know the ins and outs of all the bans like for like, incidents looked at by the disciplinary, injuries caused etc but it feels like we got far more stick, for far fewer incidents under Maguire/Wane than Saints have done this past few seasons.

Agreed. And as I think it was you pointed out, Smithies always gets dragged into this conversation but only conceded 4 penalties last season. Hence when up before the disciplinary this season he only got one match. But past reputations seem to stick in some quarters.

| Having said that, seems unfair to take the ankle injury into account regarding Lees. When Lockers high tackled Chris Annakin (sp) at Wakey a few years ago and he did his knee, their fans wanted him banned for a long period. Wasn't right then and it isn't now.

doesnt make it right though does it
having seen it, i didnt think it was worth a D Grade and 2 games is about right
Isa has been handed 2 games for an almost perfect tackle, but he let go marginally as he dumped the player, so on one hand he's got off lightly, but as above think 2 is about right

The Smithies stuff is crackers. He mouths off a bit, no more and no less. His record in terms of penalties is fine. He’s been done by the disciplinary once or twice solely on the chatter that surrounds him IMO.

| Isa is also branded as a thug for going in at 100% at times regardless of damage to himself -but he's only a small % of the equivalent from Saints where there are a good half dozen players you could say the same of.
I admire they way Saints keep their level of intensity and commitment, it makes them so hard to beat even when they are getting outplayed and offering little in attack, but there is a (naturally) very one eyed way they have when branding us as thugs.
AS said previously, there is a fine line between intensity and recklessness and Saints have frequently overstepped it the past few seasons.

In fairness Isa gets called that because of that game where he proper lost his head against them a couple of years ago. Other than that I think his aggression and control have been pretty decent.
