| Long by all accounts did a top job at Salford with their backline. I'd have him working with George Williams and Ryan Hampshire everyday along with Deacon and Harris. Three of the best halfbacks Super league has ever produced, what a fantastic array of knowledge and experience for our young lads to learn from.

If that's all he were to bring then maybe, but has his general attitude improved at all? I'd not like to think our juniors were being coached by a Stains agent who could bring "Booze, Brawls, Sex and Scandal" over the lump.

I'd find that too much of a risk. Having seen what a professional set-up we have at Wigan at that level, the thought of introducing someone like Longy, who, great player though he undoubtedly was, also had the ability to act like a complete moron when it suited him, seems disastrous to me.

| I'd be happy to have Long join the coaching staff at Wigan. At 36 I'm sure he has grown up a bit.

What a dreadful thing!

agreed. cant remember whose biog it was, but i'm sure Mr Wane was pulled out as having a less than exemplary training record. he's not turned out too bad has he ....
lets be honest, MOST of the posters on this board if they were in Longy's position would have done stuff that was well out of order. young, well off, idolised ... but he still managed to perform at the top level
would you have turned down george best as a footballing coach ???

| I think Locke plus two others for Tomkins is a brillaint deal personally. If that goes through, I can't see much hope for the rest of Super League next year.

i cant see it happening, but i agree with you
this season has shown that we CAN live without sam. he's been a shadow of the player he was last year, but we're doing well. so long as he is replaced by a good player, we'll be fine.
not sure that we'd be much better than the rest of SL, but i do believe that a 3-1 swap would not be a problem, if the 3 add depth to areas where we are weaker.

A valid point. I think there's a genuine chance he might come over with a coverted secret mission to encourage all our young players to drink heavily and beat up women - maybe even dabble in a bit of smack. In fact, there's a possibility he could convince them all to have a sex change and call themselves Janice, quit rugby league altogether and get a job working at stilettos in Wigan. I'd stay well clear.

I wouldn't. It took us long enough to get rid of that culture from the club...and I suspect Nobby made Long's leaving one of the conditions of him taking over.

Done deal, he signed this week, will initially be our hb's coach but will take up a senior coaching role next season. Believe theres going to be a shake up of our coaching staff.
As far as the above.......innocent until proven guilty

I'll reserve full judgement at the moment but current thought is not happy

I'm inclined to agree but I've thought that a lot over the last few years and to be fair we haven't got a lot wrong in terms of recruitment etc.
