Having watched three games now, our pitch is a disgrace compared to the 2 on show this evening. It didn’t help anyone last night.

| A draw at 80 minutes should be 1pt each. Don't forget the player welfare were players are allowed to play so many minutes in a season, and then we have this xtra time, and an extra game to play in the CCup. Flippin crazy.

| Quote NickyKiss="NickyKiss"I wish they'd put golden point in the bin. Forget us last night, we lost in a tight affair, against a good side and don't need every point we can get but Cas deserved something from that game tonight. I don't know why a draw can't just be a draw.'"
I said the same NK. I was more gutted for Cas than I was for ourselves to be honest. I understand the "excitement" for TV of golden point but it's no way to negate the 80 minutes of endeavour that preceded it. Also, there is no real jeopardy in the sense that seemingly all golden point games go the same way. It's effectively won by a coin toss.

| Quote DannyT="DannyT"Do teams receiving the ball from kick off in golden point ever win? Does anyone know what the stats are on that?'"
Leigh started their set of 6 in a worse position than Wigan did when they received the kick-off. Had tackles not been missed, then Leigh would have been on the 6th tackle around halfway and not been in range of the sticks.

| Quote LewCharnock="LewCharnock"Two poor examples, one in each half; O'Neil didn't clear the ruck and the ball cannoned off his legs and went forward 2/3 yards and the shout was play on.'"
They changed the ruling on this a few years ago. There was a season a few years back where teams realised they could get easy penalties by deliberately playing the ball into the defender who had just made a legs tackle or passing it into retreating offside players. There were games that were made into a complete farce by this loophole.
They changed it midseason to say the guy playing the ball has to find space to play it, the hooker has to use his skill to play around defenders who have been left on the floor behind the ruck (as long as they don't deliberately obstruct play as O'Neil didn't), and if you deliberately pass the ball into an offside player you will be penalised (didn't happen here but relevant to the overall rule).
It's not perfect but penalising O'Neil wouldn't be a good outcome either. He's not trying to obstruct the play and if he moves he's likely to make it worse.

Spot-on Cokey. Personally, I've no problem with Leigh winning on Thursday but this is not a game of tiddlywinks and the players deserve better.

| Quote MadDogg="MadDogg"If they're dead set on having golden point for the 'drama' then I don't hate the idea of giving a point to each side for an 80 minute draw and an extra point to whoever wins.'"
I do hate that idea. I strongly dislike GP for non-knockout games but at least it has an internal consistency.
Draws are fine in league games. They follow either a period of something similar to what GP extra time offers, so you had it already, or a late equalising score - that drama then being diminished (or rendered meaningless half the time).

| Watched the game live, watched it back on the tv.
What a game, solid defence from both teams, proper rugby. should have been 1 point each.
I will take the 2 points, but as i say... a point each was the fairest result

| As a Wire fan (in peace!) I thoroughly enjoyed your game, and as several have said a point each was the fair result. I really don't like the golden point - it detracts from the game.
Having watched all the games (except Cat v Hull) I think you and Leigh are 'on it' already.
It shows Leighs win in the pre season Toby King Testimonial was no fluke.
Wire certainly aren't at your level - despite the win. (I suppose at least it could be said that Burgess has something to work on....).
Not sure what Matty Peat needs to work on - possibly discipline with the needless yellows. Whether that cost you the win or not I'm not sure.
Either way, impressive from both teams.

| Didn't want to start a new thread for this but what struck me over the weekend was the question as to why Wigan and Danson haven't invested in a state of the art PL quality pitch? Huddersfield share with the football club and their pitch was immaculate yesterday.
The going rate (going off our pitch and speaking to others) is approx £1.3m which is loose change to Danson. It will definitely affect your attack until the weather improves and the pitch dries up.

i'm not in the know, but i think it will come but its getting the time to relay a pitch.
i know in the past that we have had a spell in the early summer (post football season) where that sort of work has been done, but it always goes over winter when the football is played. Its immaculate at the end of the rugby season, then its starting to return something like by the time the football season has finished, gets worked on, and perfect once the rugby has done, but thats what you get from building a pitch at water level in an area called "Marsh Green"
