It's obvious that I am talking about a winger and I've stated previously who we should have signed.
Do you honestly think we have spent up to the cap?'"

No room on the cap.
Yes GB has now gone but I suspect most players are tied up, so are you also suggesting that we pay to sign a winger?

Bearing in mind Leigh would have been scratching round for anyone available and they ended up with Matty Russell and Lewis Tierney. So we're looking at the players they didn't take.

And
Before anyone says it
GB's wages being freed up doesn't give us his wages to spend.
The club new of GB's departure at theattest end of Oct BEFORE we resigned French and Hastings on IMPROVED DEALS (Hint hint).

| How anybody could complain about a lack of signings in the current climate and when we’ve still managed to get one of the best forwards in the world on board is beyond me. Yes the squad has been thinned out a little and yes we’d all love a barnstorming prop and some cover for the wing spot but we surely just have to make do with what we’re given?! Getting French and Hastings back on board and signing Field and Bateman is pretty staggering business given where we find ourselves.

Spot on.
You could probably argue that the reason we don't have that barnstorming prop is because we've signed too many squad type players that offer very little, Clarke and Clubb being prime examples.
Signing a back up winger would just be us repeating the same mistakes.

It actually states not much room and somebody would have to go and you are right George Burgees has gone and so has Jake Shorrocks, Hankinson and Naverette.
As for the player I would have tried to sign, Tom Davies. I would never have let him go.

Where did I state that it should be a 'back up' winger?

Blame Rads for that.

The club did know we needed backup - that's what Bibby, Hanley and French are there for. You're talking about signing a back up to the backup.'"
When did Hanley become a winger? Why would you play French on the wing?

| Quote: Grimmy "Yes, can't remember if it was Radlinski or Lam but one of them did an interview saying we had little/no cap space remaining. The only thing that changed after that point was George Burgess leaving, at which point they said they were potentially looking at bringing in a winger or a prop. In the make believe world where we don't have a salary cap and players aren't bothered about their chances of gametime then yes, I'd have signed another one. In fact I'd have swapped the whole team for the Australian national team, with the GB team as squad players.
Because we aren't going to convince a better winger than Bibby to come here on reserve winger wages knowing that it will be tough to get game time due to competition from Marshall, Manfredi and Bibby. Why do you think Joe Burgess and Tom Davies aren't here anymore? The best wingers go where they will be first choice every week and get paid a salary reflective of that.'"
Regarding the salary cap, as well as Burgess, Hankinson, Shorrocks and Naverette have left. If we follow your logic then Bibby, Hankinson and possibly Field wouldn't be here.
Who said anything about a winger coming on reserve wages? How much do you consider reserve wages to be? By the way, we should have retained Tom Davies.

French would go on the wing because we have 3 very capable fullbacks and a highly ranked junior in Field, French, Hardaker and Hanley.
French has played wing in the past in the NRL. Field hasn’t he is a 1 or half, Hardaker has covered there I suppose and played there as a junior but he’s a different player now since his time out of the game.
As such I can see it perfectly reasonable to go with a backline of
1. Field
2. French
3. Hardaker
4. Gildart
5. Bibby
If we get issues on the wing again. That would be a decent set of backs with our 3rd and 4th choice wingers playing.
Versatility in a reduced size squad was always the plan in my opinion.
This is a teething problem due to exceptional circumstances. Once French is back I don’t think we will be in a position like this again.

There were plenty available in Australia. Let us not forget, Rads knew last summer that two of our three wingers would not be available, so we had no reason to scramble around it should have been planned. I can only assume that Rads is like you and he doesn't rate wingers as highly as players in other positions.

French could go on the wing (and yes I am aware that he has played there on many occasions for Parramatta) however, why would you move our greatest threat onto the wing. In my view, Hardaker is a shadow of the fullback who was at Castleford. Hanley is still a junior and Field I wont comment on until I have seen him perform in that role.
We may have issues for a few weeks unless somebody gets the magic sponge to work properly.
