Lam has improved plenty of players this season. I’d say Marshall, Sarginson, Williams, Leuluai, Powell (especially Powell) Partington, Farrell, Isa, Smithies, Byrne are all far better players now than they were in January.

Maybe since January, but since October last year, all of them (except the youngsters and Powell) have got worse.

I agree he has improved players performance but that is only one aspect of coaching. An important one is developing players who can cope with pressure in big games. He has demonstrably failed to do that. The cup final was just one example of that weakness in him as a coach.

You are joking right?
This time last year many of those players were ripping it up and getting ready to win the Grand Final.

Completely disagree and the performances of said players backs that up. All season you’ve been very pro Lam to the point that you don’t see to be seeing how poor our team has gotten under his leadership.
Marshall as naturally developed due to more game time, I’d say the same goes for Smithies, Partington and Bryne. There’s nothing to suggest Lams coaching has done anything to improve their play.
Sarginson hasn’t changed. Under Wane he was seen good enough to earn an NRL contract.
Williams has took a massive step backwards, same with Faz who after a few games looks ineffective and lost. Faz again was fantastic in previous seasons which saw him gain an England call up.
The team in the last two games, the most important 2 games of the season looked as bad as I’ve seen in them when in truly mattered in many many years.
At this stage with how this season panned out, with how we performed when it mattered; I don’t know how anyone can defend Lam.
He’s took a champion side and in under a year see us decline into what we saw last night.

| I think there’s a lot more to consider before we write off half the players and he coach.
Now it’s over for us we can look back on the season as a whole. It’s been extremely challenging for the squad. We’ve lost the stability Wane offered. We’ve had the will he/won’t he saga with Edwards. An interim coach who’s signed a 1 year extension. The Tautai & Hamlin distractions and yet again a huge injury toll.
It was always going to be a season of transition which I’d expect to continue into next year. On reflection we’ve done better than I expected, I was expecting 4th to 8th so I was very pleased to end up in 2nd.
I’m of course disappointed with the performances of the last few weeks. I honestly think we have just ran out of steam. Lam admitted we have been in play off mode for about 3 months, combined with injuries that takes its toll.
We have a lot to address going forward, particularly the pack. Burgess will help but for me we are still a quality yardage prop and a right second row away from having a formidable pack. People talk about halves and backs but generally they can’t perform unless the pack has done its job and at least matched the opposition which it hasn’t done often enough.
Finally I’d like to congratulate Salford and wish them look for Saturday. I’ll be a Red Devil for the day.

Actually agree.
Big reds response to our thrashing at Saints was... ‘sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the opposition’
Says it all. Lam, Can literally do no wrong in his eyes. I don’t get it.

If players cannot cope with pressure how have they been improved as players?
They may have increased their skill factor but that is all. Coaching is far more than that. Last night demonstrated my point. A lot of the Salford players are Wigan discards. The sum of the team is more than the individual parts. Getting the players up for an important match as individuals and as a team takes good if not excellent coaching.
Don’t waffle on about me changing the subject. It is about Holbrook as a coach not just developing individual players. Individual skill is only one aspect but then you have a fixation on your point and do not seem able to appreciate the wider issues.

Which begs the question, why did the club renew Tony Clubb's contract (and a two year deal at that). A older player that was out of contract this season, doesn't particularly offer the hard yards when driving the ball in, goes missing for long spells during games. It was an ideal time to replace with someone who will improve the pack next year along with Burgess.
It just didn't make sense. It still doesn't.
Was he on good money and has taken a vastly reduced contract to stay?
Is it that management like him cause he's 'a good bloke'?
I see another exodus of players this time next year (no doubt Lockers, Tommy, Sammutt, Escare, Gildart 'NRL rumoured', Joe Burgess and probably more). We need to be more ruthless.

I am sure he is Radlinski or some kind of club spin doctor.
When the Edwards saga was unfolding he came out saying he had contacts at the club and that they had done everything right. Turns out they had done everything right except the most important bit and just forgot to get Edwards to sign a contract. Now people can blame Edwards as much as they like for changing his mind but the ultimate blame must lie with the club who paraded him as the new coach when nothing had been signed.
Now hes trying to tell us that players have improved when we have just watched them go from champions to shambles. He must think we are green!

Which of course I didn't say nor implied.
Radlinski responsibilities include advising on recruitment and retention - IL needs a new voice in his ear. Is that simple enough for you?

Id agree with you over Marshall and Powell, the rest they've gone backwards or stood still at best, sorry I just dont buy it for me Lam won't be coach this time next season, he will see his contract out and be done, i just dont think he will be here any longer.

Edwards was never given a contract to sign, despite asking for one on numerous occasions.

Well that much is clear isn't it?
Quite why lenegan didn't get him tied down is beyond me I certainly dont blame Edwards,he was the one taking the risk really looking back at it, given his high standing in union, though that said I do think and have always thought it would have been a car crash appointment for all concerned.
But it was down to Lenegan,no one else that it made the club look like a comedy troupe

Radlinski was the contact dealing with it - both him and Lenagan do not come out of it well. Edwards wanted a contract to sign after the season finished and it never came despite numerous attempts to get one. In the end he got fed up and questioned the professionalism of all concerned.
Nobody from the club has ever apologised for lying to the fans saying he signed a three-year contract. It's still on the club website.
