| Quote: post "It really makes me laugh when people try and say Greenwood replaced Bateman, in that case who replaced Joel? Greenwood again? He must be able to make duplicates of himself like Doctor Manhattan from Watchmen.
Who did he replace? He can’t do both. But like Jukesays, Joel’s money was swallowed up by contract extensions, I don’t believe that for 1 minute. Joel would have been on decent money coming back from Union, £130k I reckon and there’s no way that’s been swallowed up. That’s been the excuse for years with where all the money has gone ever since we thought once Vaealikis contract ran out we would have big money to spend, then Fieldens contract then Sams and every year we seem to have fewer players or perceived less wages.
Either someone is bad at negotiating at the club and is paying players more than they should be, or the squad is too large and chocked full of wasted cap space through injuries or we are being lied to about how much cap space is available and someone is doing a Daniel Levy.'"
And it makes me laugh when people try and make out that 1 player out should equal 1 player in etc. And make it out to be that simple.
Truth is neither me nor you have any idea the complications involved in running a successful professional sport in a salary cap era (or outside for that matter).
Difference is some people acknowledge there must be difficulties and it isn't as simple as people think whilst others just complain and pretend they could do better.
Greenwood was lined up to replace Bateman, we got him early because of the Joel situation (I'm pretty sure the men in charge probably didn't get any credit for being cut throat enough to do that and spotting that opportunity which ultimately helped us get a 4th GF under this management).
Whichever you want to say he replaced the other persons money will have been snapped up by contract extensions and improvements for gildart/davies/marshall etc. Etc. Etc.
There was a thread among th or so ago where someone listed the players who left each year for the past 6/7 years and then listed who and come in.
Tried to make we were 10/15 players less on bringing in.
Completely forgot about players who had come in to the squad through the youth like
Budgie
George William's
Oliver gildart
Tom Davies
Jack wells
Sam Powell
Ryan sutton
Etc
Etc
Etc
And trust me the list is far longer than the amount he thought we had under recruited.
Wants to list players as leaving without recognising them ever coming in to the squad in the first place.
Where do they come from? Thin air?
No, through years of scouting, recruiting, scholarships, academies and a hell of a lot of hard work.
These lads deserved to be paid and I don't want a return to the days when 95% of the cap was taken by 25% of the players, which led after a few injuries to real proper salary cap breaches and disasters on the field, which in turn led to too much short term thinking I.e. Wayne Macdonald, Tim jonkers, Liam botham etc etc etc.
And your final paragraph is exactly what this is about, inference that leneghan is lining his pockets, robbing money out of our pockets.
Yet the books don't show that do they, how do we break the cap if we aren't spending up to the cap?
I've made my feelings known that I think we are hanging on to a bit too much of the last group of youth I.e. ganson/field/woods/shorrocks etc and that may not have helped and some wrong decisions have been made.
But are you saying hes lying?
Are you saying the books are fiddled?
Come out and say it, I'm sure there'll be lawyers queuing up to have a conversation with you about it.

Not to mention that we probably do have cap space available but it's to cover players such as Smithies and Joe Shorrocks who aren't given squad numbers initially but could be called on at some point in the season. We don't want to get into a position where we have no players available because we will break the cap should they play.

Where did I say that? That’s words YOU are putting out there.
End of the day there is a general malaise about the club, it’s reflected in the league position and attendances.
We need to sort out who the next coach will be, it can’t be Lam and he needs to go now. Keeping Lam as coach is like hanging on to a gangrenous leg, the inevitability is the leg is going to have to come off so there’s no point prolonging it.
We need to sort out The signings, the Williams saga has gone on so long I couldn’t give a monkeys even if he stopped. But this prolonged drawn out event along with the coaching appointment shows no signs of ending and fans are getting cheesed off with it, but there’s no point hiding the fact Williams is going waiting to announce his replacement before announcing he’s going, giving good news to help bury the bad Maurice Lyndsey style because it’s gone on for too long. Whoever replaces Williams, if it’s isnt James Maloney or Jackson Hastings people aren’t going to be happy, but only because it’s gone on for too long the suspense has built up. Allegedly.
With regards he cap I thought it only covered the top 25 earners who were on more than £25,000 and had played a SL game?

| Having spent a few years logging in as a guest I decided to register as a member
albeit with certain reservations.I do not participate in any form of social media as I have other priorities. This therefore is the first time I have messaged any forum.
I watched my first Wigan game in 1956 at the age of nine having been given a free ticket to the hen pen by my school which was Hindley ST.Peters.From then on I was hooked and have supported them ever since through good times and bad .I still have a season ticket and travel to some away games mostly to the Yorkshire Clubs .Thats enough of my background now here is my take on Mr.Lenagen and the current situation at our Club.
This gentleman took over Wigan Warriors when we were in dire need and he and his family trust have ploughed millions into the Club during his tenure. For this every fan should be thankful to him.Can he be criticised? of course because mistakes have been made and there are clearly some serious issues that urgently need to be addressed both on and off the field.Mr.Lenagen has a very good record when choosing permanent Managers/Coaches whether Football or Rugby Indeed he chose Wilder as he Manager at Oxford and he has just won Manager of the Year whilst taking his club into the Premier League.
However he can be criticised not least over the Edwards fiasco and his failure to communicate effectively with the supporters of the Club who presently are desperate for some much needed good news .One earlier post on this thread makes reference to the Aussie trip last year and the financial result for the Club.Well it was a financial disaster .

Welcome to RLFans, you’ll never leave.
On the whole I like Lenagan and appreciate what he’s done for the club, my initial point was to say Lam is favourite for the job he must me watching other games than us. But also the Edwards debacle, why didn’t he sign a bloody contract FFS? Why announce it if he hadn’t? It’s bizarre.
The whole George Williams saga, whereby they’re announcing it on Australian TV but nothing is said by the club. I know in time they will say ‘We couldn’t announce anything until it was finalised, signed sealed and delivered’ but then why do it with Edwards????
Whatever is going on with Williams I’d rather they got it sorted ASAP because it’s gone on for far too long, and if they can’t say anything until things have been finalised then someone needs to pull their fingers out and get the deal done because the longer they drag it out, the more the expectations grow for his replacement.

| Welcome.
I'm still a Lenagan fan, however he's not fault free. I'm thankful for his leadership over the last 12 years and the success that has brought. We have had some great times and I have been able to share those great times with my young lads.
That said... There's been mistakes made. I don't mind mistakes as long as they aren't repeated. Edwards was a biggie yes, the salary cap breach/miscalculation was embarrassing. The Marketing activity at the club is the lowest I've seen for a decade, one of the reasons average attendances have dropped by a third.
I do feel Lenagan took one eye off the ball when he became chairman of the football league. Over this time there's been a massive disconnection with the supporters alongside a culture of not only allowing our best players to 'up-sticks' and leave for the NRL but actively encourage it.
By playing matches on the other side of the world we opened a shop window to aussie agents. This practice is still continuing today.
I can understand the need to delay announcements as the club normally like to offset bad news with some good. It's definitely been a season to forget so far. Plenty of work to do next year to get us back into contention.
New coach.
4-5 new players.
Change in strategy business direction.
Better communication with fans.
Better Marketing activity.
That would be a start. If I was giving marks out I'd say 7/10 overall since 2007.

But he got a good value of reimbursement for those players & they didn't land at rival clubs. As someone has already eluded to he is a good business man and good businessmen see 5, 10 & 15 year forecasts, he knew what was coming and acted accordingly to keep the club afloat. It's bloody heartbreaking that there doesn't seem to be a viable alternative to that plan, people are genuinely skint, although the great news of Thieving May resigning could be a game changer for this country, well I hope it is....

Yes he got a good price for them but this money wasn't ploughed back into the team.
Yes they didn't go to a rival club they just headed down under and made our competition even weaker.
Yessss.....May has resigned although we might now end up with Boris Johnson

| Thing with being happy with players leaving to the NRL and coming back here is like letting your Mrs have a hall pass.
That policy needs to change, it should be ‘If you leave, you ain’t coming back’.
Mossop, Tomkins, Sarginson, Burgess, Joel, etc all shadows of the players that left.

He tries hard and does well at fullback, he just can’t pass to his winger.

That was the only positive I took from the game.
