Quote: MorePlaymakersNeeded "Hypocrisy aside, is Carney correct, have players shown a disrespect to the club?'"
They've shown no respect for themselves
If I did the same it isnt a reflection on my employer, it's a reflection on me.
Petty points scoring about which club a player plays for is just an aside.
Warrington have started to turn their culture around, but as I am sure you will know 10 /15 years ago up until very recently it would be a case of "their for the grace of God" with a large proportion of those players.
I have friends, and other links to people who have played and have had other roles at wire and until very recently there was a lot of things going on, even under Smith. Let's just say there were lots of "Ups" & "Downs" amongst other things (and a certain well liked player at Wigan used to distribute them like smarties before he left so not just picking on wire here)
Price has vastly improved that, but they're not whiter than white same as EVERY club.
The question here is game wide, not just Wigan having 2 problems being caught in quick succession.
Because very soon it will be different players, different club's and although they may not get as much attention (Because it's Wigan) it doesn't detract from the issue.
Wigan do as much as any club if not more than most in educating youngsters coming through.
Just over 18months ago I was talking to a national coach of another sport who came down to speak to Shaun wane and look at the junior set up and he was blown away with everything from player recruitment, coaching and education and career path beyond rugby and said it was better than anything he had seen.
Only trouble is that creates other issues, you pamper them with all this extra stuff and they're likely to think there's always a get out clause and someone will help them.
However, that's better than the alternate of doing nothing.
End of the day though it's a nationwide issue and whether we think it is socially acceptable or not these days the game and it's players and officials need to understand that as long as we are following UKAD and WADA etc then that are of their social life WILL IMPACT on their chosen profession. If they want to continue with their habits then so be it, but they'll have to continue to dodge bullets and I won't feel sorry if they don't and get caught.
Wigan (Leneghan) provides a lot of support for players affected by a lot of issues and I reckon 75% of the issues goes on without the general public knowing about it. When it does become public the club have employer/employee responsibilities so it's not easy for them to explain what's gone on and how they've helped or disciplined the players/employees.
Majority of fans want a quick and simple response, we've sacked him for example but it's far far more complicated than that.
Educating players can only go so far, at some point they have to take responsibility for themselves (and no matter how much you tell some people, some learn quick some learn slow and some never learn at all).
