Wouldn't made any sense to allow him to speak to union clubs; as that's where he's been based for the high percentage of his coaching career, where he's most likely to attract interest.
FWIW I think if anyone hasn't been fully open, my money is on IL. He has a history of mis-leading fans with announcements; i.e the John Bateman contact, furthermore I don't understand why he's not yet address this issue which is creating more media column inches.
I hope this is all put to bed and Edwards comes, but if I was a betting man, I don't think we'll see Edwards back.

What if Edwards would only commit to the club if there was a clause in there? Lenegan has been crazy about Edwards returning for some time and i think he would agree to almost anything to try and get him here.
The other alternative is that the RFU could be willing to pay big compensation to buy out the contract that Edwards signed?
Who knows but one thing is for sure, for a supposed guy who would bleed cherry and white if you cut him in half, he sure is coming out with some strange stuff and does not seem excited in the slightest about coming home. It almost sounds as if its a chore thats been forced on him. Even during the press conference when Lenegan paraded him and Lam, Lam sounded the much more excited of the two. I even commented at the time, that i was most looking forward to seeing what Lam could do after hearing them speak.

Majorly unfair on Lam that. The team is simply not good enough. Losing Bateman, Tomkins and Sutton all at once struck us a fatal blow. I keep saying it but Bateman in particular was a HUGE loss. If you look back, much of the good things we did came off the back of something Bateman did earlier in the set/tackle. The guy was simply one of the best players this club has had in many years.

we'll agree to disagree on Lam. The team has Bateman and Tomkins (Sutton was never a major influence on the team). Yet the team looks an utter mess. a far cry from the GF winning team of 2018 (which was actually only a few months ago).
I discussed in an early post why I feel he has to be held accountable.

Sutton was under rated IMO. He must of been doing something right if the NRL wanted him.
Large parts of the last few seasons have seen terrible performances and we have only just managed to save games in the last few minutes after being terrible for the previous 70. I dont think we are that far away from last year but this year we dont have those couple of X factor players to pull us out of the mud. I feel sorry for Lam, he was thrown to the wolves with the cards he was dealt. I would like to see what he can do with a few more players in key positions and if Edwards does not come i think we should stick with him and give him a fair crack. He may even have us playing much better in a few more games, its far too early to judge him yet.

This.
You can’t lose a player of Sam’s calibre and bring in a proven SL failure in Sammutt and expect to continue as we were. The only improvement for me has been Bullock for Sutton.
We’ve too much dead wood in this squad; Tautai, TL, Sammutt to name some who get games regularly. We’ve said it until we’re communally blue in the face but we need a quality HB. If we’d have signed Hastings I guarantee we wouldn’t be where we are now. The team is lacking direction going forward and the blame for that lies solely with our HB’s who have been poor.

NRL also signed Scott Moore and Dan Sarge (who's heavily criticised on here) just cos the NRL sign you doesn't always mean you're a world beater.
We were sloppy at times last season, but if you watch how we're actually playing we're a good way off how we performed at the back end of last season.

| All the players mentioned were playing really well in SL which got them noticed in the NRL. Sutton was obviously seen as offering something that the NRL wanted. Id swap him for Bullock in a heartbeat. I really dont get this fawning over Bullock. He makes about 2 good runs then fades badly.

Jesus, are you always this miserable? Bullock has been great so far this season, he’s made a few errors but is learning and has still been one of our best forwards. Sutton was massively overrated and filled with errors penalties, he played well whilst he was in the shop window then that was it.

| Bullock was blowing badly after 15 mins yesterday but so far his step up has been pretty good, but its early days,Sutton it seemed to me only really turned it on last season when his head was half the world away.

Im not miserable, im just warning against over hyping a player. What has Bullock done thats so 'great'? Running the ball in determined a couple of times a game and then fading to obscurity is not great. Compare Bullocks contribution to that of Chris Hill when he joined Wire. Hill was a wrecking ball in his early days especially near the opposition line and immediately had an impact on Wire. Bullock needs some serious fitness work before he is starting prop but our other options are sadly so bad (except Flower) that hes now seen as a first choice prop

To think Chris Hill was on Wigan’s scholarship for five years until Dean Bell said that he wasn’t good enough, ironically along with Stefan Ratchford. Chris then got snapped up by Leigh & Ratchford with Salford, the rest as they say... is history.
