We actually deferred payments so we did not go over the salary cap. So even though there wasn't much wrong in what we did, we still went against the "spirit of the cap" which is what we were punished for.

You won't remember that though because you were still in the lower division then...

But by the end of 1991 we had won:

The Challenge Cup in 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991

World Club Champions in 1987, 1991.

Champions in 86/87, 89/90, 90/91.

By the time Offiah came, Leeds had purchased Ellery Hanley off us (for more than we originally bought him for), so desperate were they to emulate our success. They had Schofield, Gallagher (NZ RU Import) and many more, spent massive amounts of money to buy the success (but failed to win trophies).

We used the Hanley money to buy Offiah.

We still want Wane out, he is getting very lucky due to the fact the standard of the league is rubbish and teams like Hull KR provide us with very little competition. We even lost to Widnes!

With regards to Shaun Wane, yes a very small minority on here questioned his credentials after the Hudds loss (big step for an assistant coach to up to Head Coach).

A few questioned his thought process for the selection against Widnes, where he rested 8 (IIRC) first team players. Many still think (me included) he got things wrong that day.

He's still learning and doing great. (Arguably better than Michael Maguire in fact - more fluid in attack whilst structured in defence).

Some people take life way too seriously...

to be honest the team that played widnes was probably stronger than the one that battered leeds last week even with that team you should have beat widnes
