The Wigan Ultras get a bad rap on here, but I'm gonna go against the grain and say they've improved their support massively. I'm not really bothered what they call themselves as Ultras is a common name for all sorts of organised football groups across Europe, and the likes of Accrington Stanley and York City have done it here. They're not patricularly original either, as most of their songs seemed to be reworded Liverpool or Man United songs (which has also influenced their flag designs) and Dale Cavese is as generic as it gets in Europe - although I do like it.
The fact is though, they are loud and they don't go anywhere.
Let's be honest, once the result was beyond doubt yesterday what we all wanted to see and hear was "the Wigan walk" and silence from their end, so we could all wave them goodbye and sing about being top of the league.
What we actually saw and heard was a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that completely drowned out anything we could muster, leaving us to resort to a childish "you're sh*t" at the brief quiet moments of the tune. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs/chants, because as soon as "We are top of the league" got going by us it died out seconds later when everyone accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot and went back to "you're sh*t". No point even bothering with "We're gonna win the league", or "We shall not be moved" after that.
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. If they're honest with themselves (although I'm sure they won't be and will slag me off for this post) I think most fans of other clubs who slag them off and just jealous that their own club's support is nowhere near that good.
Not fishing with any of that either.

I agree with most of dropkick murphy's post, although not the impact it had on the Wire fans. I thought it was an awesome atmosphere around the whole ground.

One of the stewards tried to move us at the end. Me and my mate just stood there and said "What are we doing wrong" They knew that we had committed no offence and they couldn't do anything. He looked a bit embarrassed when I told him that.

Too right, we proved that on sunday without doubt.
NO OTHER set of fans would have done what we did losing by so many points to one of our rivals.

Where did he post that?
Finally some actual truth being spoken about us rather than just negativity. There is no denying we have improved the support.
We certainly outsang the wire fans despite losing and their response was VERY poor. Many Wire fans just don't want to admit it. Some of them have though.
The jealousy thing is huge. Who wouldn't want to see a group of their own fans showing the colours of their team and improving the atmosphere? Had the south stand been a sea of primrose and blue on sunday with a group of fans getting the south stand bouncing... would they have been complaining and giving them stick for being hooligans? I don't think so.
Massive credit to him for that post, but where is it?

Try and find the Wigan/Wire game around 98-99, first game of the season, we got battered on the score board but unlike your 10 minutes we did 80 minutes non stop, back in the day we had brilliant fans, now it's like they are waiting for something.

Wire fan going on about history nice.
I'm talking about now, no other set of fans would have done that.
I honestly think we will get so much better as well. The ultras have been going just over a year and after 5 or 6 who knows what could happen.
I can honestly say that I wish every single club in super league had something similar. An improved atmosphere at all games would result in more people wanting to attend which means higher gates and many people watching on tv would stand up and take notice of this kind of passionate support.

agree again but it won't, Wigan's new 'fan club' for want of a better word was born out of insecurity and changing other teams perception of you the wigan fan (not just you), if anyone at any game left early, it was always known as the Wigan walk, even the Sky team mocked it, now that's changed. Other clubs like some of their grounds are stuck in the dark ages and this is just too modern for some.

You seem to make out that it came from guilt. I don't think it did. It has come from the passion of the people involved. We did not make an aim to stop others from doing the walk.
The walk has happened with all clubs for years now. Wigan gained a rep from doing it in their dark days and it has continued and jumped on everytime we have a bad game. One Wigan fan was filmed walking away from cardiff when we got battered and yet nothing was said of saints fans leaving early when we thrashed them at Widnes or when we beat your lot in the QF of the cup... or the Leeds fans at Wembley.
For the record, some of our fans do still do it. But so do other fans.
I believe we have some of the worst fans in the world, they leave early, give stick to the players, moan for the sake of moaning, only turn up for the big games etc..... but that minority are far outwieghed by some of our fans who I believe are some of the best in the world. Look how our attendances flew up when we were at the bottom of the table as an examlple. I am not talking about our 'ultras' here but just our fans in general.
On sunday the Brigantes was a small group at the back, the rest of the stand was getting behind the chanting and supporting the lads even though we were losing. I am not claiming the 'best' supporters are the Brigantes or myself.

| People are people at the end of the day, doesn't matter who they support.
What you have with ultras/brigantes is organisation, just a little is enough for other people to join in, everyone else are currently a disjointed mess, it wouldn't take much to get other clubs to do the same, trouble is no one seems to be ars*d

Other clubs don't even need the flags, merchandise, meetings etc. but maybe just a group of fans who get together to sing.
Looking at the south stand, there is a couple of groups throughout the stand but they are never doing the same thing. If all the people who wanted to sing were in the same place then it would work very well IMO.
Much like at our place, plenty of people want to sing and start songs but they are all spread out. If our regular group of away fans were all stood together then we could have a great atmosphere at home games.
