Do you live your life by sound-bites?
To complain that we've "signed a cast-off" is to ignore all sorts of other pertinent factors, not least the way he was treated at Leeds, which is basically a sinking ship, and the current state of our own forwards' fitness.
We need extra fire-power in the front row. This guy has a great pedigree, which his short-term problems at Leeds have no actual bearing on. If you consider those simple facts, you will understand.

Where's the name calling?
You stated that you couldn't understand the reason for signing Cross. A few posters have given their views on why he was signed.

| It seems to me that people are focussing too much on his age and his time at Leeds.
Had we signed him straight from the NRL instead of from Leeds I'm pretty sure people would be jumping for joy.
Coley was an average forward before being coached by Madge, Wane and Bitcon.
Mossop and Prescott were both going through the motions before these 3 guys were in charge.
Fieldens career was going down hill, is it a coincidence that he started to play better when these guys took over?
Cross has made a bigger name for himself than Coley, Prescott and Mossop. He didn't do it by fluke, the guys was a class act back in the NRL, not every player gets picked to play front row at Origin level. So if our coaching staff can turn a solid but pretty average Coley into one of the best props in super league and they can convert Mossop and Prescott into a future dominating front row then I'm pretty sure they can work a little magic with an ex Origin player who was once one of the top props in the NRL.
When Fielden was playing rubbish everyone always said they wanted him to return to old form. People said 'he's got it in him' .... so has Cross, his talent just needs to be released so he can run wild.
Give him a few weeks and I bet he will do a good job for us. Even if he doesn't suddenly end up being MOS, surely a half decent prop with bags of experience is better than having no prop at all?
Finally, he has played at the highest level in aus and can pass on some experience to Mossop and Prescott etc. while he is here. He will surely be a decent bloke to have around the dressing room and I think he will help add some agression.
For less than half the season and probably on peanuts... how can this possibly be a bad idea?

I reckon you'd be even less overjoyed if we didn't sign anyone and then found ourselves with only two fit props as the business end approaches.

50086_1357229109.jpg [b:33tg3xj5]Me:[/b:33tg3xj5] I'm still reeling from the news that someone is considering watching the 1st and 3rd game on Saturday and NOT watching Warrington play. It's like being in Shea Stadium when the Beatles came to town and deciding to nip out for a fag.
[b:33tg3xj5]knockersbumpMKII:[/b:33tg3xj5] Is it FOOK, you're good but you're not THAT good, jesus you wanky fans need to get over yourselves, Beatles at the Shea in '65 was a once in a lifetime opportunity for some (despite the following years performance), you can watch a very good team in primrose & yellow play every week if you really wanted to but comparing it to one of the very best music groups of all time in an iconic stadia such as the shea is overegging your importance, you're not even the best team in SL atm:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_50086.jpg |

Could turn out to be a shrewd short term signing.

Exactly. I can't see how there can possibly be any down side to signing an extra (State of Origin experienced) body for the squad, especially at prop.
Shrewd work from Wigan I reckon.

We didnt have the injuries we have now though!!!! Prescott was still fit. We now NEED a forward for the squad.
I was also being very one-eyed and looking at his time in Leeds rather than the NRL.
