I don't think they even do that.
More has been done in twelve months 'unofficially' than the Riversiders have done in twelve years IMO.

| what im saying is that having the ultras, its quite obvious that other teams are seeing it as a firm, and as a result making it an un-friendly atmosphere for other non ultras attendees.

By other teams you mean Warrington? Does that not say more about them than the group of Wigan fans who've gone out of their way to raise money to buy flags and banners? A group of fans who get down to the ground on Friday morning to put up banners in their own time. A group of fans who get to away grounds well ahead of schedule to set up their display?

| Quote: Diavolo Rosso "Why are you asking permission to do these things? Just get on with it (admittedly you need some club co-operation to hang flags from the roof).
I never replied to the previous thread but yes, Salford were the first club in RL to have an Ultra style group although the term Ultra was never used as we weren't even close to the real thing. I will dig out some of our photos when I get chance. Our finest moment was making our last major flag inside The Willows without the club even knowing about it (I'd like to see you pull that one off), made even sweeter because we were far from popular mainly due to a few smoke grenade related incidents and our ability to sneak stuff in to the stadium. Alas our continued pathetic performances have finally managed to drive even our hardiest fans in to apathy (me included) which is why nothing much happens anymore.
It's good to see other fans making an effort, it looks from the outside like you're far too involved with the club though.'"
Thanks for the comments and constructive criticism. We’ve had similar messages from fans of other clubs up and down the leagues. Fair point about it looking official. That’s something that’s hard to get away from in modern stadia like the DW. The only place you can use tele poles are on the concourse in front of the stand. You need the clubs permission to even set foot on that concourse. You then have the Head Steward for the South Stand who is dead against this. Other difficulties in a ground like the DW is the problem of grouping likeminded fans together. It’s early days so you’ve still got people interested who are season ticket holders in other stands. Over time maybe this’ll change.
There is no way of getting away from the fact that you have to work with the club on some things like flags on top of the gantry and standing on the concourse in front of the stand. Impossible to do those things if you don’t work with them. Other things we haven’t asked permission for and have been rumbled.
Like I say, encouragement, support and constructive criticism received from Saints, Salford, Huddersfield, Halifax, Leyth fans etc as well as fans of football clubs. Only set of fans with an obsession with it are Wire fans and I wonder why that is? All boils down to jealousy and bitterness. If they were doing it I’d say good on em’. It looks good and that reflects better on the sport if it’s seen that its support base is vibrant.
We’ll keep plugging away at it anyway, start to build on the home made stuff and sort some displays out for this season. Displays without scratty ingerlund flags that Umbro give away free during a World Cup.

At which game did this 'unfriendly atmosphere' happen? I'm intrigued........

Show me where opposition fans have a perception that the ultras are a 'firm'
Show me an example of violence at games because of the ultras?
Explain the unfriendly atmosphere?
Your post make me believe that you are nothing more than a Warrington/Latics troll.

I think you should use the confetti at the Warrington game, just to p*ss off that head steward

Good post Ultras is just a name. People can't seem to grasp that, is it too far down the track for us to change it? Maybe have a vote on it?
