| I haven't seen enough of Widdop to make a sound judgement on him. One game for England against a depleted France team in Leigh isn't enough to convince me. I'm sure he'll be around the squad after everyone making such a fuss about him but he's not played enough first grade rugby to be ready for a Four Nations tournament IMO. Plus having three 20-21 year olds with a handful of caps between them as your three attacking pivots would be a massive gamble

| It might be a gamble but it must be worth taking, all the "experienced" players in those positons have been given a go and have been found lacking so why not try younger players - how else are they to get experience. Also I suspect we will see the likes of Sinfield, Roby and probably Lockers in the squad/team - plenty of experience there - they will need to be the on-field leaders and help the younger players.

Myler yes I agree with that but Eastmond don't agree.
I would say Eastmond and Tomkins are both on a par both are very talented players with a hell of a lot of potential to go far in the game.

| Eastmond started the season on fire and at that point in time was looking superb. However injury's have taken there tole on Kyle, and in the mean time after a slow start to the season Tomkins has really kicked on and he's playing his best Rugby so far.
It'll never happen at club level, or I doubt it will, but could you imagine just how dangerous Sam and Kyle would be behind a dominant pack playing together.

They are both miles ahead of Myler but even without my cherry and white tinted glasses on I honestly believe Tomkins is the better all round player. I think Eastmond and Tomkins have similar potential but I think Eastmond has further to go than Sam as it stands.

| I put them both level talent-wise at the start of this season but Eastmond looked to be ahead of Tomkins physically. He just looked a more mature athlete at the time but as we've seen this year Sam is no shrinking violet in contact and is well capable of stepping out of tackles and pushing off blokes far bigger than him. Tomkins may have moved slightly ahead of Eastmond now solely due to having a full, injury-free season under his belt. We'll just have to see what kind of form Eastmond carries into the playoffs to see how they both compare now

| I'd put them level on talent, but Tomkins has played the whole season with consistently high performances, whereas Eastmonds has been interrupted by injuries. Im sure if he managed a full season i'd consider them equals, but just because of that, Tomkins!

I think you are right mate,if Eastmond had stayed fit for all this season he would be on a par with Tomkins.
Also let's hope both players stay injury free and play for England in the 4 nations.

I agree 100% with all that.
I too thought tomkins had a slow start to the year and in fact thought he'd gone backwards but soon came to life and looks to have improved a hell of alot on last year.
Eastmond started the season on fire but injured his ankle and is now a little off the pace due to his ankle injuries.
These two are both top class players!

Why the comparison when they are all quite different from each other?
Was Garry Schofield better than Andy Gregory?

As I said on the Myler thread. England are very lucky to have Tomkins, Eastmond and Myler. All different players, all good young promising players, why opposition fans have to rip into them beggars belief.

| I'd agree playing so many youngsters would be a gamble in the four nations, but it's one well worth taking. They may get beat, but the experience will be invaluable. I say play the promising youngsters at every international opportunity especially against Aus and NZ give them as much experience as possible leading up to the world cup. It's the only way.
