| Quote: Rogues Gallery "Sam is an ideal fullback.
Noble wanted to try him there, Madge has tried him there and Pat Richards has recommended him for that position.
It may not happen yet, as we are will covered with Pat or Amos there or Phelps at a push, but he will be gone next season.
It will all depend on what positions we fill in this close season (and next) and also what comes through the academy.
I think Stef Marsh could do a very good job at fullback, but think he is being groomed as Gleesons replacement in a couple of years, but don't rule out Sam from the fullback position as he develops.'"
I know i've wrote this a few times but Sam at #1 is a stupid idea imo.
He's got the potential to be one of the greatest HB's Wigan has ever produced and a talent like this shouldn't be moved for anyone.
He's played one season of SL and is currently, imo, the best 6 in SL. Imagine what he'll be like after 4 or 5 years of playing.
Really how long have we waited for a HB like Sam to appear on the scene?

I suppose the forgotten man in all this is Joe Mellor, he could also be an ideal candidate for FB in the future. Anybody heard anything about how Mellor's recovering?

I can't remember where I read it or how told me, but it's good news he is expected back before the end of the season.

Taken from a topic on the VT but i honestly can't see Lima and Finch going to Hull KR next season.
If, and it's a big if, Lima is available then we’ve gotta be in for him haven’t we?

This is good news indeed, if true.
Mellor is definitely the 'forgotten man' at present. He's a real talent, and in a year or so's time could be the answer to all our halfback problems.

| HKR are already £3.5m in debt which is being underwritten by their directors.
How much Finch and/or Lima would add to that is unknown but they appear to be losing money on a yearly basis.
Finch and Lima would be good for them.
Thy would also be good for us too!

Not if we can get Luke Bailey instead. A lot of the Melbourne forwards aren't as effective when they leave to other clubs. Lima I believe is staying in the NRL. We shall have to see though.

Just found the post.

First week of July he should get the all clear!

Normally I’d be very worried about players coming over and not being effective as we’ve seen it so many times in the past. However when you look at the improvements Madge has made to the squad this season I’m more than confident that if we signed a player like Lima we wouldn’t have to worry about his form.
In fact I’d argue it would be easier for a player like Lima who is used to the system we’ve got in place to fit straight in with little fuss or problems.
Again it’s all about opinions and I’d take a Lima over Bailey.

Fair point. No-one will know more about the bloke than Madge. If he's right for the club then so be it and just because players from the Storm haven't been as effective when taken out the Storm system doesn't mean it wont happen here. But on the whole that has been the case.
I would be happy to take either player, but if forced to make a decision between the two it would be Luke Bailey. Plenty of experience represented Australia and played in many SOO matches.

Not much to seperate between the two of them though. However both look better than Josh Perry statistically.

| I must say looking at those stats Luke Bailey's one hell of a prop. His figures are immense. My only reservation is he's getting on a bit.

Like you said I’d be happy to have either at the club. Both are different types of player but both would have a massive impact at the club. Was it not reportedly between ourselves and Saints for the signing of Bailey at the start of the season btw? I’ve heard or read very little from the NRL about Bailey staying in Aus so putting 2+2 together you’d think we are now the front runner for his signing?
One thing I think we can all agree on is that this is the level of player we need to be looking at for next season.

You wonder how much research some of these Aussies and their agents actually do. Can you imagine giving up the NRL, coming to a cold, rainy country like England for three years, and when you arrive finding that your new home is Belle Vue, or The Jungle, or New Craven Park!!!
It's no wonder that so many get 'homesick'.
