| When this new pitch was laid there was a video with the groundsman on the wigan website and he was saying it would stand up to anything aslong as it got treated every 6 months or so.
It had that last season when we moved our Wakefield game but theres been no sign of it since.
Penny pinching from Whelan by any chance?

| Quote: pedro17 "Headingly is used as a cricket ground car park and rugby union and rugby league so cant really use that one. Only the KC and Huddersfield are used the same as us.'"
The KC Stadium wasn't particularly great for Hull - Huddersfield at the weekend. Having two sports playing all year round on a pitch will have an adverse effect but as it has been said a thousand times the reason the Latics played in a bog last night is because it is built on a bog.
If the Latics ever get their way and remove us from the stadium then perhaps they - and the journalists in the press - might notice that.

| I think it's an absolutely Fantastic Gesture by the Latics not to mess up the worst areas of the Pitch (The Goalmouth's) by refusing to go anywhere near them in the 90 minutes last night!

| Blah Blah Blah, football is the darling of the media, and even if they hate it like a poxy club like Wigan have made it to the promised land, that anger, will always come second to the blame game with another sport.
The most ironic thing about it, is Martinez really believes he has a superb free flowing football team on his hands.

| as stated the ground is built on marsh land and the worst winter in decades is upon us.footballers wear longer studs which tears the pitch more than rugby, the national media treat all things wigan related as some kind of joke.

Happy time...: |

| Penny pinching by Whelan, the so-called 500k pitch was more like 200-250k. Until they sort some out the drainage it will always be the same.

Can you really blame him?
Every new season is tarnished for us by this cat's chorus of whining from the football press, who are apparently insensed that we are being allowed to play home matches on our own pitch.
We've had this for ten years now. You can't blame Wigan fans for feeling sore about it, or for reeling in disbelief at the arrogance of a sport that apparently thought it only had to click its fingers and Wigan folk would immediately give up their former life as a rugby league lovers in favour of something completely different.
At one time I'd have thought there would be room for both Super League and Premiership Football in Wigan. The attitude of many int he football establishment, however, is leading me to revise that opinion.

But im not, i enjoy the sport.
What I cant handle it the attitude of the press towards it and other sports. What have Wigan RL done wrong - play on their own ground, a ground that wouldnt have been built without them. But yet the media, ignore all of that, and the fact that the stadium groundsman will tell you that its the football that does the damage, just to make their own bitter point that premierleague soccer hasnt captured the imagination of a RL town.
There isn't room for both top flight sports to continue at the DW in the long term, and Wigan Athletics slow decline along with Whelans loss of interest, will slowly see normal service resumed.

the telegraph can't stand Rugby League, probably because it's written by a load of yawnion loving toffs. have a look on that website and try to the RL page without typing it in the search bar. bunch of pricks
in all honesty i couldn't give 2 s if the state of the pitch affects latics chances of staying up, i just wish people would stop pinning the blame on us when the current state of it clearly has bugger all to do with us

| Since when have latics been part of the football establishment
The premier leauge would love clubs like bolton, wigan, burnley, blackburn and fulham to swap places with leeds, forest, newcastle and sheff weds
Again sly digs at the towns football club from the narrower minded individuals on the board,it all gets rather tedious on this board and cockney spastic with the are sports better than your sport are crowds bigger than your crowds argument, why can't some people accept that some people prefer rugby and some prefer football and some enjoy both.
