Incorrect once again my friend... the RFL will not allow you to register a player if they contract will push you over the salary cap... hence the word "live"!!

nope, they just don't allow you to register the player.
Hence no more salary cap breaches.

| Quote: steviewire "Wigan were splashing out the cash left right and Centre before the days of the internet revolution, in a time Wigan were the only player in Rugby League, the rest of us were just a side act to the Wigan show.
So for you lot to be criticising the Wire for splashing the cash is a bit rich. If the Wire do break any salary cap rules that is the time to have a go, until then think you will have to live with the fact the Wire have a wealthy backer who is willing to invest. 20 years ago you were doing the same but on a bigger scale which in turn almost ruined the great game of ours.'"
You don't half know how to re-write RL history. I think you will find Widnes and Leeds were hardly averse to splashing the cash as you put it and had varying degrees of success when they did. Leeds failing spectacularly first singing up Hull's star players like Crooks and Schofield and then going after some of Wigan's.
The difference was Wigan were innovative off-field not just in terms of going full time (which only happened in 1991/92 season by the way) but by employing specialist sprint coaches and so on. We also produced many of our own players.
It is however much easier for people like you to ignore all those facts and say basically we bought success. Leeds proved you need more than money to have success. Whether there is that sort of off-field organisation Wigan had back then currently at our club now I have my doubts given the way some players look and play. I remember signing McInty from Wire and seeing him improve here which was not a coincidence. Now the opposite seems to be the case when players leave.
So we can all spend the same money up to the limit of the cap but just like Leeds spent at least as much as Wigan if not more that won't mean the trophies are equally shared out hence the recent dominance of Leeds and Saints.
I know Wire can't break a live cap just as Wigan can't and there may have been loopholes exploited by the likes of Wire and Saints but if there were, you should be in favour of them being closed as you seem so fond of a level playing field.
As to Wigan nearly ruining the game, don't be so stupid. We dominated the cup for 8 years not the league, premiership and regal trophy.

| All that will happen is that Myler will sign for Wire at the end of the season. He will still be a Salford players until then (it will be from either 1st November or 1st December), just as Long and Gilmour are Saints players until then but are moving on.
At that point he will be registered if Wire have sufficient space on the salary cap. They will have to release players (i.e. Johnson) to accommodate him.
In many ways it's just like giving notice to leave a "normal" job.

| I don't really understand fan's arguments regarding transfer fees. What relevance does it have to us fans? If Moran has a squillion quid to splash out on a player then all power to him. The Wire fan have no reason to concern themselves with that. The only point of interest to us as fans is whether the players can be accomodated under the cap and what effect that will have on squad depth. Transfer fees are an irrelevance.

| As an aside, isn't it good that we can argue about the merits of 3 young halfbacks as good as Myler, Tomkins and Eastmond. Add Ratchford to that list and we have a healthy future for England at 6 and 7

Unfortuntely it's you who is re-writing history. Billy McGinty, for example, was an excellent player at Wire, but like Brian Case, Andy Gregory and others, could not resist the 'Wigan shilling' and miraculously became GB players after their transfer. Wigan undoubtedly almost killed the sport with their reckless spending and disregard for RL as a whole in the decade from 1984 onwards, and bankrupted themselves twice in the process. No other club ( including Leeds whom you malign ) went anywhere close to being on the brink in the way the 80s Pies did. Widnes had a go but with a lot less money had to limit most of their spending to RU players.

| Keep making it up, it's entertaining to say the least
It's funny you chose to mention Andy Gregory - who ofc, you got from Widnes for payment in Jelly Babies.
Continue to ignore spending millions on ground improvements that killed ground capacity and overran massively as well.
It's an interesting fantasy world you live in.

The fantasy was Wigan's - history records they bought ten years' of trophies but despite the prize money and big gates overspent so far that they went bust. If some of that money was 'wasted' on ground improvements it just adds weight to the conclusion that Wigan just simply spent what was needed to win and didn't spare a thought for anything else.

| what about Hull and HKR in the 70's / 80's
Fairbairn, Millward, Miller, Dorahy, Broadhurst etc
Leului, Kemble, Akoi, Sterling, Muggleton
Leeds,
Schofield, Crooks, Hanley, Gregory, Wane, Bako etc
Saints,
Sculthorpe, Newlove, Sullivan, Martyn, Nickle, Groves, Matautia, Goulding etc.

| Good that we have millionaire's backing the game. Good luck to Myler with his move, well done Salford for getting so much money and well done to wire for speculating.
