| Famous Amos did have a shocker on Friday, bar a couple of nice little runs. The way he dropped the ball on a few occassions defied belief, it seemed like he just let go!
However, he has been improving as the season has gone on and many players had the dropsy's on Friday including Gardner & Meli. Let's stick with him.

| Shock horror winger drops a few balls in wet conditions, so did Phelps but theres not a 6 page thread on here about him is there? If he was as bad as people are making out on here he wouldnt play for Wigan ever again.
He is a classy player as we have seen in recent performances. He's here for the next 3 years, get used to it.

Phelps, by and large, played well against Saints, whereas Roberts looked like he'd never seen a rugby ball in his life.

Once again, he gives everything and apart from the odd mistake (which admittedly were more frequent against Saints) is a very good player.
Amos, nah.

| There's not much point comparing how much ball Roberts drops as opposed to Tomkins. The comparison should be strictly between Roberts and Ainscough since they are - or should be IMO - fighting for the one available wing spot.
The problem I have with Nobby's decision to stick with Roberts is that the basis of his decision, i.e. Ainscough's defensive frailties, looks increasingly weak every time Roberts coughs up possession.
There are many issues to be considered in the Roberts/Ainscough debate, not least of which is the assumed disparity in their contracts but at the end of the day there are two obvious Nobby traits which cannot be denied and that we all have to accept:-
1. Nobby has proved in the past that he doesn't think merely scoring tries is enough. For evidence of this, look at how he constantly ignored Calderwood when he was GB coach.
2. Youngsters only get a chance when Nobby has absolutely no alternative. How many games would Sam have played were it not for Tim Smith's injury?
To return the the Roberts issue, I'm not bothered too much which one of them plays. Ainscough may (and I say may) make more defensive errors but he scores far more than Roberts. Swings and roundabouts. For me, it is more interesting to think about Nobby's mindset when it comes to selection and the way in which he seems to resist change at all costs.

But this point is like comparing apples and oranges. We naturally scored more tries on the left side due to us previously being a left sided team. Roberts, and Calderwood before him, never got any decent ball until we signed Gleeson and lost Hock. It would be an interesting comparison if we could see Ainscough playing on the right wing.

Your wasting your time!!!!!!!
He's the scapegoat for last week, end of!!!!!!
If Riddell had knocked on once then I am sure there would have been all this about him as well.
If Roberts had played on the left he, IMO, would have scored roughly the same amount that bothe Ainscough & Richards have scored.
Vice versa to them playing on the right wing.
Roberts had a bad game Friday, but he'd had 10 good ones before it! That'll do for me.

I believe he plays right wing for the reserves? Where's Rogues when you need him! I accept your point and as I said before don't now have too much concern over which of them plays, though I disgreed strongly with Ainscough's treatment when being dropped as he led the try scoring charts. I honestly don't think he will ever get another chance at the club if Nobby gets a new deal for next season and beyond and this is what I find interesting. Whatever Ainscough's faults he has definite plus points. I just feel that Nobby's personality is such that he can take a certain stance with a player and will never waver. When we have had injuries in the backs in the past it's as if he has done all in his power in terms of resuffling to keep Ainscough out. Compare that to the repeated chances Pryce gets and it is a puzzle to me.

Since Pemp's reply was to my post I presume you are accusing me of making Roberts a scapegoat, which is strange given my statement that I don't have a favourite either way. Still, feel free to blaze away.....

Pryce has played what? 5 games??????
The only time he played on the wing IIRC Ainscough was in the team on the left.
We had injuries in the centres and he brought a centre in or Bailey(Who has played International Footy at Centre) to cover.
Should he have played Richards/Roberts or Phelps at Centre to make way for him????????
If Richards or Roberts gets injured then Yes, play him, if not he will have to bide his time AND Train & Behave OFF the field like the superstar people think he will become, NOT just act like one on it!
