| Quote thepriestman85="thepriestman85"What a player Tezza was at Wigan! Whilst other big time charlies were also failing drugs tests and walking out on their country Tezza was far and away the best 9 in the country. It's no wonder he's done what he's done is it. Shame the RFL weren't paying his wages or maybe he would have got off as well?
His career ended the day he was sold 2 Bradford for a player who isn't fit 2 lace his jock strap. It's a shame that a few mistakes like this one will now mean he doesn't get the respect he deserves as a great RL player.
Still a Wigan legend IMO'"
Was that before or after the performance enhancing drugs

He didn't have respect outside of Wigan anyway so this doesn't make any difference.

| Quote MattyB="MattyB"Wiganers & Drugs
When I was going on the lash through the nineties and onwards, if anyone wanted any drugs (not that I nor any of my mates did), then it could be obtained from a friend of a friend of a friend. I must admit the drug culture has never affected me and if you don't go looking for it you won't see it........
........And then a couple of weekends ago, I ended up in Indiependance (used to be fifteen), I was stood having a slash in the upstairs bogs and two lads at the side of me were openly sniffing cocaine and bragging how good 'the stuff' was!
Now, if it was done in the cubicles that's one thing (thats kind of hiding it), but the fact was they were completely uninterested in the fact that I was stood at the side of them - I could have been anyone (off duty copper, owner of the gaff)...????
I must be getting old, but I do fear for my two young lads who will be hitting the 'delights' of King Street in the next 10-12 years!!!'"
Actually think this is pretty accurate, and you must be a similar age to me. I can recall the early days of my drinking days in St. Helens and taking the beak was a taboo. It was the dark art and kept well hidden from public.
I too have seen lads snorting the powder in the cubicle and I can tell you of one player happy to take the stuff at a mates house. It is a problem in society that it has become some sort of statement of 'independence' and 'indviduality' to take the stuff.

It's funny though, if it's common knowledge that two players have taken substances through out their career, the difference of being simply being caught could result in one good player at the end of his career being accused of being a disgrace to the game or on the other hand you could be classed as a legend and have a statue erected in your home town centre.'"
So true. it's like reckless driving, I'd take the 'course' over the points so would certain players.
It does make a mockery of the disciplinary system if your standing in the game is considered before the punishment is given.
It wouldn't surprise me if clubs were tipped off that testing was scheduled at their training sessions. All using players would end up being injured and you'd end up with only a handful of players actually participating.

I'm 18 years old, you could say I've had a good upbringing, kept out of trouble and all that. I go round King Street often enough to know where to go and where to avoid - its just common sense. You don't find drugs unless you go looking for them. I guess a lot of players seem to find themselves in the wrong crowd of people i.e. Like Hock said; its having the knowledge to avoid them and use your own common sense.

Its nothing to do with upbringing mate, Im 30, have freinds who are doctors lawyers, firemen, plumbers, brickies and dont work.
Every single one of them has tried or uses recreational drugs, i even had a mate who took steriods, but didnt really go the gym! Thats true by the way!
Its super common these days, id be more shocked to meet someone between 21 and 30 who hasnt taken any sort of drug!

| think it needs to get worse before it gets better. when players can look at their club and see their mate has been done for it then we might get a mentality change.
the rfl need to up the testing, midweeks, unanounced, majority of players every week or even all the players every week. i dont know how it works at the minute but doesnt coke pass through your system in 2/3 days? sunday morning tests at players homes?

Course he does. He was the starting hooker in 7 finals (including 2 CC wins) over the space of 7 seasons and earned 15 GB caps over the space of 9 seasons. He wasn't the same player after he left Wigan but he's still had a very good career.

| Just finished watching the boots and all clip from last night, and i cant believe im about to say this, but paul cullen has spoken the most sence i have ever heard (from him) about the use of drugs by sportsmen.
Hock testing positive was the worst kept secret in wigan, it was a matter of time, but the growth hormone issue is a massive one. How many lads do we see much bigger after an off season? Now i realise you can put some weight on in a short period of time, and I am not saying they all do it, but I do know that designer steriods arnt that difficult to come by for proffesional athletes. The rfl should test everyone in the comp, using the most stringent test allowed, if thats the hair folicle test then so be it, we may have teams playing with half a squad, but if thats the case then so be it!
