| Quote Bilko="Bilko"I think the complaint is we never go wide to the right. Our left attack is lethal whether it is Paaaat or Ainscough out there.'"
It's a theory that's never been tested.
So...play Ainscough on the right, and see what happens...
(I think he's played a fair bit of his second team rugby on the right...might even be his own preferrred option?)

| Havent read what has been said in the previous pages but I hope that the person who said Carmont should be not be playing next year, will re-assess his silly statement

He played on the right wing for the Reserves on Sunday.

| In my view we have not just become a left sided team this year. I think this has been coming for a few years now. Certainly for all the time Calderwood was here. He was helped a little when Barratt was around as we did use the right side a little more but not greatly so. When Carney was here we didn't seem to have that problem.
Talking about Carney reminded me that when he saw an opportunity he pinned his ears back and went for it, to great effect. Roberts does go for the gap when he sees one and has finished off moves which have needed finishing, if you get what I mean. Calderwoods problem was that he wasn't getting many opportunities but IMO those he did get he didn't seem to have the confidence to go for them, and as somebody has mentioned previously he would cut inside to the waiting arms of the cover defence.
So Reberts has it for me over Calderwood although he has some way to go to match Carney at his prime.

| Quote Bilko="Bilko"I worked it out myself.
Robinson's only played at Wigan so his strike rate was 60.8%
Dallas during his Wigan career was 60.4%
Offiah at Wigan was a staggering 116.8% - although this is currently bettered by Shaun Ainscough lol!'"
so roberts need to get his figer out sharpish to come anywhere close to JR and BD, ane he wont get anywhere near chariots, so hes never going to be a wigan "great" unless he scores about 200 tries during rest of his contract.

I worry that some of this anti-Roberts feeling stems from the Ainscough business. I don't think that Roberts has been particularly better than Ainscough since he arrived at Wigan, though at least he goes up for the ball rather than watching it land in the attacking winger's arms (having said that, he usually then drops it so why bother?), but Roberts plays on the right and Ainscough on the left. Does that not make a difference? In my own playing days, I knew many three-quarters who favoured one particular side, and were nowhere near as effective on the other. If that's the case, then drawing comparisons between Ainscough and Roberts is a bit pointless. Surely we should be drawing them between Ainscough and Richards, which would be a 'no contest'.'"
You couln't be more right. Fact is it chould be pat getting the "your standing in the way of the chosen one" hostility, but he doesn't, even though Ainy plays on his side, but nnnaahhh it's all Roberts fault.
Oh, and Nobles

Theres a reason why Richards doesnt get the hostility though. Well 3 that I can think of straight off the top of my head...
1. He has an 80% scoring record this season, second only to Ainscough and way above Roberts. Therefore common sense says critisise Roberts before Richards.
2. Richards is our Kicker and makes up for the difference in tries scored by Ainscough through Goals.
3. Richards can defend very solidly and doesnt have a defensive risk acting against very good scoring record.

| This is being more complicated than it needs to be.
For us to go overseas and spend so much money on a winger, he should be and absolute world beater. He could still come good, but his performances have not been good enough. I am not in favour of playing Ainscough every game like some people say but I would be happy to drop Roberts and play Ainscough for a week or two. Roberts has been dodgy in defence just like Ainscough.

Yes exactly.
Suggesting to drop Roberts doesnt nessesarily mean writing him off and not seeing him again for his next 3 years. It just means using Ainscough for a few weeks instead and having a bit of change for a while.
Has everyone forgot when Calderwood and Richards kept Dallas out of the team for a few weeks? Doesnt mean everyone hated Dallas, but at the time everyone was happy that the 2 form players were being played in favour of the older more experienced Aussie.

I think most peoples problem though is that he was dropped when he was playing well and confident. Maybe if he came back in the team now he would not do as well.
