| Central contracts by the RFL wouldn't keep players from going to Union.
Union can offer far more at club level and if a player can become an established Intl, like Ashton, then they'd be on a central contract from the RFU which again will be far more than RL can pay.
Union and their money is not the problem, Rugby League and it's lack of it is the problem. Along with a player pool that's far, far too small.

| Its not all sweet at club level at union alot of clubs are unsustainable and talking about relocating, if you do a bit of research you will see that some london clubs fans are sh*ting themselves about rumours of there sugardaddys pulling there cash out and then the clubs will go bust . Newcastle Falcons wont last much longer either. Can you imagine if tomkins goes to saracens and there south african owner pulls his money because hes peed off with the 5,000 crowds they get for the championship winning side sarries will go bust

I hope we don't give them any players on loan.

| The owner of Wasps announced today that he is looking to sell the club and is now seeking a buyer.
Sale's owner Kennedy has given warning about their finances. They will most likely move in with Salford.
There are a couple of others who are in desperate states but they still keep on going.
The RFU supply them with large amounts of revenue and the average £ take at a Union game is around double that of a League match given the same size of crowd. They have their problem clubs as we do but overall there is still far more money in Union than League.
It's their Intl programme that's their saving grace.
As one journo said to me, "The Six Nations is a cash cow for the RFU"
That competition isn't going to end any decade soon!

I've said before Salford should get Sale in with them, play nice for a few months and then hit them with huge increases to play there.
I'd personally make their players come ready with their kits on and ban them from using the facilities as well.
Show them who's boss.

This is the difference. Add the autumn internationals agains the Southern Hemisphere teams and you've got Twickenham selling out 7-8 times a season (80.000+ at £40-odd a ticket), plus whatever other events that go on there i.e. concerts, cup finals etc.. It's all cash that goes straight into the RFU's pocket which filters down to the clubs. League can't compete with that because with Sky pulling the strings Super League is prioritised higher than the international game

If you are going to link something, at least read the whole article and click on the link at the bottom of your link, that takes you to the actual accounts that show, a £50k profit in 2010 and a loss in 2009 which is not "half a million profit for the last few years".
Businesses and companies like to make press releases that will confuse people who dont understand accounts, to mask the real results.
Bottom line is, £50k profit in 2010, a loss in 2009. Read the actual accounts.
