20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

Hundreds at the train station, maybe 2k at the game today

Lots of youngsters there too which is really encouraging.
Great to finally meet up yesterday.
Hope you and your mates had a good day out.

| Quote: MadDogg "Enjoyable and really promising. Thornley, KPP, Field and Byrne were standouts. More intent, togetherness and confidence as a team.
The starting line up for KR will be very interesting, particularly in the backs. It would be a risk but I think I would stick with KPP at centre - I really think we could be onto something there. Is there a place for Zak atm? Field was a threat in attack though I'm not sure how he'd cope with Abdull's kicks. Again on balance I'd probably continue with him at fullback though it wouldn't surprise me if they go with Zak.
Also interesting that they played Bibby at left centre with Thornley on the right wing - you might have expected it to be the other way round. No idea what the 3/4 line will look like in the first game.'"
It’s absolutely ideal to think Hardaker and French may sit some games out purely on not being selected. I don’t think I’d pick Hardaker first game now, especially given he’s got no minutes under his belt and he’d have to fight his way in. That’s a great position to be in. As and when French is back, he again will struggle to get that fullback spot ‘if’ Field can keep his pre season form up.
They’re two man of steel winners/nominees we’re talking about and we have a great opportunity to make sure every player knows they’ll need to earn spots.

Fields has been good so far but he hasn’t been tested defensively. Need to see him one on one with an attacker.
Possibly running the first game with hardaker at centre, fields at FB. If things don’t go to plan push Fields into the halves, hardaker to FB. Bring KPP/Halsall/Bibby/Thornley on for Fields/Tommy.

Agree with that, he does need to be tested and there was one or two hairy moments dealing with kicks last night but we can’t be anything but pleased with the start he’s made. I don’t think we’ll get a Radlinski level of safety out of Field or French as fullbacks but going the other way they could be dynamite and we need that threat IMO.
It’s good problems anyway, whatever they decide to do.

| It’s good to see some positivity but I’ll temper it with the just friendlies at the moment but nothing since Peet was announced has made me think the club got it wrong a whole attitude change throughout the club seems to have happened and it’s great to see let’s hope it continues.

Even though they are friendlies its night and day difference from being under Lam. We have a set of props now and a team with direction and a plan, I'm happy.

| A big difference was having players prepared to run off the ball and having players supporting the ball carrier. Bilko made a great point on commentary in the second half when Field followed Bibby and dropped the ball. Joe Mills said another player had got in Fields way and he had but as Bilko pointed out, it was great to see two support runners trying to get there. I don’t think we’d have had one last season.

| One of the most pleasing things for me was we were looking for the offload. Many of us have been calling for that for years.
The 3/4’s looks to be able to make good yardage away from our own line, the forward pack looks bigger and stronger than last year and likely more able to take on the likes of Catalan & St Helens.
In a way it’s the little things. When KPP set up field, the east pass was to TL but he was aware enough to pass to the bloke with pace. Really good sign for a young player.
The team as a whole look a lot happier and seem to have some belief which bodes well for the season ahead.

Oh I agree early days yet though but the difference is there from Lam and his attacking rugby style that never arrived

I mentioned the one up rugby numerous times last year.
Makes it too easy for the defence.
Great to see it’s changing!

| Didn’t see the game due to work but I am pleased to read the comments about the performance. Especially with regards to Iain Thornley, it sure looks like he’s set on a course to make me - and a few others - happily eat our words.
I’m looking forward to the new season, though I certainly won’t be getting carried away, the performance and overall buzz about the place is promising.

The benchmark is clearly Saints and looking at them these past few seasons, it’s the basics that set them apart. The line speed in defence, the movement off the ball in attack and just a general willingness to bust a gut and support each other. All our efforts these past couple of years has been put in to hanging on in during games and trying to defend our way to wins because the attack was an absolute mess.
There’s still work to do because we did revert a bit back to the errors and penalties of last season in the second half and we then had to defend all half but I’m putting that down to the raft of changes made and we still looked comfortable enough.

| I noticed the support runners too.
Rugby league basic, run one out and get smashed by 3 defenders.
Run with someone on your shoulder and up against two defenders (increased chance of a quick PTB or offload.
Noticed Tommy and Cust going out of there way to add support to runners especially coming out of our own half.
Great to see.

| Impressed given this was a 2nd match.
Mago, Field and KPP had good games.
You're in a good place.
Cant read too much into this, but its a better position than we are in.
