Not just me then. I’m not kidding, my chest has actually tightened in pure rage at that.
He was attacking defenders, winning penalties and must’ve been responsible for well in excess of 250m when you consider the ground from the pens and his own carries.
It’s pathetic!

| I'm not sure why people get so worked up when quotes are taken in isolation without the full context.
Numerous times this year people have put snippets of quotes from wane on here and he's either a/ not said them at all or b/ they don't look as strange when looked at within the full interview.

Two different interviews, the one about leg drive was from BBC Radio Manchester. It’s genuinely worrying that he doesn’t want leg drive after contact, there’s a reason NRL put so much emphasis on metres after contact and it sounds like Wane wants to coach it out of him.
I’m a big fan of Wane but feel like someone’s needs to give him a big shake on this one.

| So it's drive it in, accept the tackle and drop to the floor for quick play the ball? If I still played the game and I was told that I'd be quite devastated. The game really is becoming a chess match that's played more off the pitch than on it with preset tactics and set plays. This isn't a Wane whinge, this is a whinge about the game in general as I'm sure most clubs will do similar. It's no wonder we don't want any big forwards, the yards are made before the collision as the players are told to basically surrender and look for quick play the balls or a penalty, light quicker forwards make more yards before the collision.

You know what?
I'd take more notice of people if they hadn't spent the last 2 years twisting every tiny thing into a massive Wane slagging off tool.
Certain posters who said Hamlin would get a game every week because he was a wane buy then slagged wane off for not playing him.
Now on other threads making a scenario where wane can't win with regards to team selection next week.
He may very well have said what he said about Hamlins leg drive but to be honest I'm.sick to death of reading so much negativity regarding wane when most of the time he hasn't done or said anything wrong that I tend to switch off it's become that boring.
Lockers/Powell/Burgess and probably clubb come back in for me if everyone fit
If any doubts about lockers it wouldn't bother me if he missed out and have him firing for Leeds away.
Woods/Ganson/Marshall to miss out and possibly navarette dependant on lockers and also escare.
I get the Burgess argument but for me he was fantastic at saints on good Friday same as his other games so far (and Marshall has to be fair).
I just feel under pressure and in big games budgie is the more complete all round player (some of the bombs he took GF were superb).

There is nothing been taken out of context here nor is this a snippet. I have just listened to the radio manchester link and Wane is quite clear he doesn't want Hamlin to play like that and says it not good for the team. I actually made a joke on the "other" Wigan forum before I saw this thread and listened to that clip that Wane would coach this out of him and Hamlin would end up like FPN. Looks like that is the plan.

| This drop to the floor for a quick ptb was first tried by Bradford in their halcyon days. It was very successful.
So much so that it was deemed not appropriate and they brought in the "surrender" tackle and this nullifies any advantage as it gives the tacklers more time to get off the tackled player. This is why dropping to the floor as soon as contact is made doesn't get a quick ptb. Hamlin went into contact and continued with leg drive, he got better quick ptb and any number of penalties.
On Wigan TV Waney says he liked what Hamlin did, he also gave credit to Romain. I reckon both will be in the squad at Catalan but not at Leeds nor home to Cas.

| Just on this quick p-t-b thing: seems to me that this tactic would make more sense if we ran from dummy half more and caught markers not square, as they do a lot in the NRL. Couple of penalties like that in a set and you are right up in your opponents' 20. Yet we seldom do that.

Just remind me where Hamlin came from and learned the game? Bit confused.
I think there should be room for both in our game plan. A lot of the best in NRL have great leg drive through contact. It also sets up good plays and offloads examples Roby off Walmsely and Barba off Thompson just Friday gone .... but then again what do we know?
The other big thing is this as a fan is what I want to see it gets me behind the team and in turn the team feed off it. I pay to be entertained and running hard through contact is a major part of that.
This is not out of context and a real concern!

I posted the other day that Wane clearly knows what he's doing and you're 100% correct that he simply can't win in some peoples eyes regardless of what he does but I'm firmly in the camp that says these comments are just laughable. They may have been made in the middle of rafts of praise for the kid but ultimately they override anything postive he's said for me because they kill the lads biggest attribute stone dead and they go against everything people have wanted to see in a prop forward for as long as the games been played.
On the point you make about Marshall, what a position to be in. I peronally would have the kid as first pick after today and Davies and Burgess would fight for the other spot. I've been impressed with Burgess since he came back in and I still think theres more to come but that was sensational from Marshall today. He's scored four and set one up and whilst he wasn't really tested at the other end, he did everything asked of him and made some real ground for us. I'd put Davies in the riskier position for next week and that's amazing to say. The lad does so much graft for us but he's bombing some big chances at points this season with poor handling and it's something he really needs to work on (and I'm sure he will). There's no doubt that Burgess and Marshall are far more naturally skilled rugby players then Davies but its tough to look past his wokrate. As I say it's a really great problem to have.
