| Salford have signed too many problem players. They need to build from a base of really solid professionals like Harrison Hansen.
The signing of Scott Taylor proved they were desperate to sign anybody the thought could improve them however bad their attitude may be. Taylor didn't want to be at Wigan because he wants to be back in Hull. Why did they think he'd want to be at Salford instead?
It makes no sense.

| The lack of sympathy on the boards staggers me. Mostly from people who have never met the guy, who accuse him of being stupid and a waste of talent. I've never met him either, but I enjoyed watching him. It seems to me that his various misdemeanours are rather trivial and some quite comical. Obviously they add up over time and I wouldn't really argue that he should be retained by Salford.
The sin binning against Saints was hardly the most aggressive of acts as he barely touched the guy. But claiming that he should be kicked out of the game is a ridiculous over reaction. People seem to be wallowing in Gareth's misfortune, especially as it seems to be self inflicted.
I know I'm in the minority, but I feel sorry for him. I hope he finds another club. I fear that he may have burnt all of his bridges in the game, and that is sad.

It's fair enough to be sympathetic to a guy whose career looks to be over before he's even 30, but Wigan really went out on a limb to try and help him. I don't know what he's done at Salford, but some people's problems really are self-induced. Especially if those problems involve biting the hand that's feeding them. Like Gareth or loath him, no one can deny that he's wasted his ability.
As for Salford, they looked to be stocking up on trouble the moment Koukash starting flashing the money. I understand his desire to get quick results, but there were far too many wayward characters in that team - he ought to have given it a bit more thought. I wonder how long K himself will stick around for?

I don't disagree with you about Hock, Cruncher.
On Salford. How else is someone going to entice players to a bottom of the table club with the worst crowds in the league? I mean, getting players of the calibre of Chase, Hansen, Locke, BJB and Dobson to Salford is a pretty good bit of business I would have thought. I watched them at Wire in the first game of the season and they did ok. One or two youngsters have started to come through, Evalds for example, looks promising. The meltdown against Saints was unexpected for a team with that amount of talent, and I do think the position of the coach will be questioned before long.
My feeling is that Koucash is in it for the long haul. He has fallen in love with the game and is doing his best for Salford, who to my mind, don't really deserve him.

I hope so re. Koukash. He's a character, plus he's adversarial with the Yorkshire Mafia, which can only be a good thing.
I totally agree about Harris. I very strongly suspect his days are numbered. Wayward or not, that team should be much better than it is.

| Hock's biggest problem is despite all the protestations to the contrary I don't think he has separated himself from the friends/hangers on/bad influences (delete as appropriate) that were blamed for his drugs ban in the first place.
Certainly didn't seem to be free from his 'crew' when I saw him out and about just before the season started.
As for Leigh I hope he doesn't go there as they seem to have a really tight and focused group of players and his introduction would only be disruptive for me.
I don't wish the lad any ill but he has done a cracking job of p***ing his talent away!

| He's almost 32 and has more chances than most people would get in any other profession. In hindsight he should have moved to Aus when he had the chance.
I wouldn't be surprised if Widnes took a punt on him

I think from a positive point of view the Good Friday game at Langtree park in 2012 will rank as my favourite memory of him in a Wigan shirt. He was too big, too strong and too good for them that day.
Even on that day he had a brain fart though and decided to throw the ball at the Saints fans. I know that would be a boyhood dream for 99% of Wiganers but he shouldn't have done it

I agree. I only saw the one he got sin-binned for on the highlights and he literally didn't do anything. Mosoe went down like a sack. I was amazed when he got a 3 match ban for it. Didn't see the other incident though.

Sadly you may be right.
There must surely be somebody in his life that can sit him down and make him see sense?
The first thing he should do is quit social media - its really humiliating and sad to see from somebody in his position.

I always wonder if Mike Greg could have kept him on the straight and narrow.
He was so well respected by everyone and the players seemed to love him. I still doubt it but he may have managed it.

Yeah, if Mike Gregory could not talk him round then perhaps nobody could.
I just get the impression in this case that the problems start when he is not occupied with training or playing. I can imagine its really important that players spend their free time in a positive way and that must be hard for clubs to try and influence at times.
I think this is where the clubs community / education work can really help but convincing the player to take part is another matter.

Maurice I wish Leigh well, it may be a risk worth taking if he gets you into S/L, but that carrot can be outweighed by the problems he can cause a club.
