It would be interesting to know what regulars to the u19s think Williams best position will be when he matures, when you look at him now he seems to be a very big lad who seems to be clever and strong and not lacking in confidence.'"
Having been to most 19's games this season and before I've always favoured Williams over Hampshire even though I believe Hampshire has more to his game than Williams in terms of his goal kicking and ability to play in more than his natural position of stand off but that's been one attribute that a lot of Stand Offs have the ability to fill in at Full Back with little problem, I just enjoy watching Williams more and it slightly irritates me when people report on the 19's games as all they talk about is Hampshire whereas as if not for Williams then Hampshire wouldn't stand out as much for example the Leeds game at the weekend Willliams created several tries one of which was for Hampshire I just struggle to understand why Williams rarely gets mentioned for his major contribution to the side, but that aside both are very exciting prospects and I'm just glad they are in reserve for Wigan and not Saints, Leeds or Wire as both have massive potential both players remind me of younger versions of Sam in as much as you can only see greats things in the future for both players and in my honest opinion Williams will remain at Scrum Half but despite Tierney being around I see Hampshire as the long term Sam replacement and can see Tierney switch to either Wing or Centre.

I flicked through the game on Wigan TV and I must say from a highlights point of view Williams looked like he had a blinder. It was taking numerous defenders to drag him down every time he ran the ball and he put some cracking passes out. I did read somewhere he'd made a few errors with his distribution but if anything I'd say that may have come from an over confidence.
He looks a real talent and I'd be happy to see him getting more games in the first team next year. He looks to have the type of running game that would cause defenders far more problems then Logan Tomkins if we were to throw him in at 9.

Your comment about Williams filling in at No 9 was what I was referring to when I made the comment about him being a very big lad.

| It'll only help his first team chances if he's able to play in a few positions. The 7 spot in the side looks sewed up for a few years with Matty Smith's form and Hampshire is a natural 6 so if Williams can make an impact from 9 that could be a spot he can squeeze in to.
Another player who looked an absolute handful in the game was Dom Manfredi. He doesn't do things at half pace does he!

What's the reasons behind that? I presume Orrell isn't up to scratch and the DW isn't available?

It's not as simply as Hampshire is a 6 and Williams is a 7 so that's where they will play. Hampshire is more like Smith in that he's better at first receiver and on the right hand side. Williams seems better as a second receiver because of his strength, footwork and offloading ability, similar to Blake Green and just like Green he favours the left.

It used to be simple, halfbacks used to play as a unit all over the field, If what you say is correct, it confirms that all the creativity in young players (especially halfbacks) is being coached out of young players at an early age.

I don't think that's the case. Halves just tend to be played down one side of the field these days and most players are better on one side compared to the other - in the same way that they would be left or right handed.

Sorry to differ with what you are saying Cherry, but I can imagine the reaction of the Murphy's, Gregs and Edwards of this world when asked if they are right or left handed before being told what side of the field they should line up on. Cheers.

You don't think players are likely to have a preferred side of the field? It's no different to Man United playing Ryan Giggs on the right - brilliant player but only ever capable of playing his best on one side of the field.

Was it to the right that Gregory was so bad at passing to he used to turn his back to the opposition?
