| Quote: Finfin "Always did his best for Wigan, but other than the odd game in 2006 his best wasn't anywhere near his price tag. Physique of a Greek god but didn't bring that on to the field at Wigan. Seems like a decent guy, different personality from the normal RL player so all the best to him. I'm sure he'll be fine. The posters who said we should keep him are humble tonight, good decision by our club to move him on.'"
Unlike those who stood by Prescott.... freak injuries are just that, nothing more, nothing less. Sadly, it was always inevitable that this thread would descend into the usual garbage, just didn't expect it to happen this quick.

| I would like to offer my best wishes to Stuart Fielden on his retirement and i agree it's a shame that he could not bow out on his terms and whilst still playing some good footy
I sincerely hope that he can move into coaching and prove to be a success, I would love to see more of these top quality ex-players joining the coaching ranks and across all of the SL clubs too, as far too many are being lost to our sport when they have so much knowledge to pass on to the next generation of players
Quote: NickyKiss "At one point he was the best prop in the world and the best I've seen. '"
I'd agree about Fielden once being the best prop in the World, although IMO that was based purely on his Bradford Bulls career rather than the form he has shown whilst at Wigan
I would be interested to know if Wigan fans ever believed that he could have been classed as the best in the World based on his form shown whilst at your club and if you believe that he ever justified his £450,000 transfer fee?
I still believe that Jamie Peacock has been more like a £450,000 signing than Stuart Fielden has tbh and the Rhinos got him for free, I believe that JP is the best signing and by any club during the SL era

| My views on the value Fielden offered are probably best left off this thread. Suffice to say I'm glad IL and Wane were smarter than many posters on this board, they're copping a lot of flak these days so it's only right to point out they do get some decisions right that could otherwise be costly. I'll always remmber Stuart Fielden as the best prop in the world in his Bradford days including a man of the match performance in the WCC. Some very good performances at international level too. He won 1 Challenge Cup, 4 Grand Finals and 2 World Club Challenges. I bet not many players retire with that many medals. Best of luck for the future Stu!

| I believe he saved us from going down.
Maybe not on his own, but a vital cog of the Noble/Fielden/Dobson arrangement that, imo saved us from relegation.
In his time the best prop in the world. Hampered by injuries/burning out?/ freak incidents that led to a downward spiral.

| He did his best when he was with us. He was good in 2010 and when he first joined us. We didn't see the best of him, and didn't get many games from him, but that's almost certainly not his fault. His best times were clearly at Bradford, where he was immense till 2005ish if memory serves.
It seems to me to be a valid comment to mention that the club did the right thing to let him go. He's had a good careeer, been very well paid and has a job to go to, so it's hardly as if we need to feel that sorry for him, unless I'm missing something.

| I hope he writes a book!
One of the best props in the world in his Bradford days but people often forget that he also played as part of a tremendous pack of forwards that dominated almost every team they played.
At Wigan this was not the case and Fielden was easily targeted by the opposition but despite this he really improved under Maguire and was a good servant for Wigan.

| Absolute monster in his bulls days and one of very few players that (as a fan) i was intimidated by when he was playing against us.
People can say whatever they want about his transfer fee but he was the ultimate pro for us and pretty much did not miss a game for the first few years. Yeah the injuries caught him up in the end, but i bet he was still hammering the gym in between layoffs to keep himself in shape.
Top bloke, top player and i wish him well.

| I respect the fact that he said 'much bigger salary' when asked for the main reasons he left Bradford, who were still up there at the time. 99.9% of players wouldn't admit it in an interview, it's nice for a player to admit it.
