Loving the sport I want to see Great Britain v Australia in an Ashes series again, with full stadiums of full paying spectators. Not a competition with teams made up of Australian and British players who don't quite cut the grade.

| Anyone who seriously thinks that England winning the world cup will be massive tabloid news is kidding themselves. It would probably get half a page 4 pages back in the mirror. The only game that will get any publicity what so ever is the opener and the final if its us versus the aussies. Dont get me wrong, I want England to win at everything but first and foremost im a Wiganer, and il take a Wigan win over wire or saints any day of the week over any England victory.
Im in the GB camp aswell, bring back the ashes and then we may get some publicity, look at cricket, the Ashes is far, far bigger than the world cup to both England and Australia.

Agree 100%, England is for football, cricket ,darts, etc, when it comes to Rugby League it should be Great Britain all the way.

Spot-on.
It'll never happen though until we're in no way dependant on Sport England's funding because of the incompetence of the current sponsorship organisers.
Plus you only have to look at the hype the yawnion fixtures have garnered this morning. World cup? what world cup?
(something I said would happen 12 months ago, but was shouted down)

I don't care how much news it would generate. A world cup win for England will be bigger than Wigans double this year for me and, apparently, for Sam Tomkins too.

| I'd swap a Challenge Cup Final for one World Cup Final win against the Aussies any day. TBH, I'm getting pretty fed up of short-sighted league fans.
For the long-term future of the game we need a strong international game. Why have we lost players to union in the past? A lot of it's down to the international stage union offers. Where's the motivation for the likes of Tomkins once he's won a Grand Final and Cup Final? Yes, we need to bring GB back, but England need to feature too.

| I'd like to see us follow the Union way of thinking and play as England in the World Cup, 4 Nations etc before becoming GB every 2 years to take on the Aussies/Kiwis. The big difference being that we'd play at home whereas they don't.
2013 - World Cup
2014 - GB Tour of Aus/NZ
2015 - 4 Nations/Euro Cup/Pacific Cup
2016 - Aus tour of GB
2017 - World Cup
I doubt it will ever matter though unless we can find a major sponsor

| Out of interest, why are people so pro-GB as opposed to England? Surely it'll almost always be the same 17 blokes regardless. I would like to see us bring back the test series but the problem there is that one country is always left twiddling its thumbs

| Internationals should be the pinnacle of the sport imo, I can understand why people would choose their club but for me its always country over club, that's the only aspect of rugby union I admire and envy the ability to get a 70-80,000 crowd for an England friendly at Twickenham.

For me i don't give a crap about a GB side, it's a pointless exercise since neither Wales, Scotland and Ireland want to be part of Great Britain. People from England seam to forget that GB isn't England we are English not British and our national anthem is Land of hope and glory not god save the parasite.

I think it's because in RL terms we've been brought up on GB as opposed to England. I'd been watching rugby for 6 years before I'd heard of England RL yet I'd been to watch GB in 3 different test series and got up to watch the 92 tour on the TV.
Personally though I consider myself to be English and only cheer for a GB side every 4 years when the Lions go on tour. (I would of course cheer for GB and would more than likely try to go and watch a tour down under)
I think we need to follow the RU model as best we can rather than just go straight back to GB because the Scotland/Wales/Ireland sides need to prosper. To stop players from picking their nationality when it suits they would be able to play for Ireland in a World Cup and then rather than jump ship to be English and play against Australia they could still do that by representing Ireland. We need to encourage those players that have chosen Ireland for this World Cup to stay there for a Euro Cup/4 Nations qualifier and then give them the chance to play the Aussies either as Ireland or as GB.
We could even make the 4 nations a 6 nations with Australia, England, NZ, France and the winners of the Euro and Pacific Cups. That then also encourages those Tongan/Fijian/Samoan representatives who then jump back to Australia/New Zealand to stay with that side.
The chopping and changing of nationality needs to stop first and foremost or the International game will always be a joke.
