| I'm going to say this now. I think Williams will win a grand final with Wire during his time with them.

100% for me as well. The pandemic will have left many clubs in a very precarious position and there is no better place to be than in the one Wire find themselves in. They have a mega rich owner, desperate for success and who will be able to keep throwing money around at a time when many clubs will be tightening their belts. The Wire academy seems to be throwing a few good juniors out at the minute as well. Let’s put it this way, if they can’t win a Grand Final in the next few seasons with the advantages they have, then you have to wonder how they ever will.

| This “thing” about having a rich owner meaning you can throw money about for success isn’t all that for me. They’ll have two marquees & spend up to the cap. Wire have tried the whole money throwing excercise for a while apparently with some success (CC wise). Thing is now is that it appears to be coming together really well as they’re finding a decent balance. How Powell does as coach remains to be seen. If they win SL, which I think they will within the next 3 seasons, it won’t be solely down to their financial position IMO.
Personally, my thoughts are generally that whoever out of the top 5/6 has the best coach wins the league. One of SL’s biggest issues for me is that there is a distinct lack of top drawer head coaches, with guys like Sean Long missing out on working under them (AKA Wane under Maguire). There really are no stand-out head coaches across the league (possibly McNamara, only on form though). Massively missing 3 or 4 Maguire’s/Holbrook’s/Robinsons’s/Monie’s. The draw from SL seems to be dropping for these type of guys, but you get a few teams with that level of coach at the same time, and the whole league improves as it drags the rest up (monkey see, monkey do). Thing is, it would take a minor miracle to make it happen given the decline of the sport generally over here.

Wane did not have a pandemic and today's poor financial situation at the club to deal with like the present coaching staff.
Time that some supporters faced up to the fact that like in everyday business life, Wigan is getting left behind Warrington and St Helens where investment and finance is concerned.
Now, it is not a case of Warrington spending more than what is allowed on the salary cap, but more a case of Wigan not in the same position to spend the amount allowed like they did in the past.
Hence, Warrington offering more money for Williams!

There will be a big difference throwing money around in these next couple of years to throwing it around in normal times. That will be that other clubs won’t be able to do that. Yes there is a salary cap but you can go above it with the marquee rules and not many, if any will be spending at Wires level. They would always see Wigan, Saints and Leeds as the threat. They have a Leeds side who have a way to go to be challenging for league titles, a Saints side feeling the pinch of the salary cap and who are losing three huge players for next season in Bentley, Fages and especially Coote and then us, who look in borderline crisis. We look to be losing about a third of our salary cap next season and to date seemed to have signed a championship winger and a squad filling centre, without much promise of pulling together a squad anywhere near good enough to challenge for honours.
Add in the fact Powell is coming in, who I expect to go really well and it’s now or never for Wire.

I do agree with you and it begs the question of why Mike Danson was brought into the fold. Recently quoted as the 119th richest person in the country with a personal wealth of £1.17bn.
That wealth is his and it’s his choice as to what he does with it. Becoming a substantial shareholder and ‘investor’ in a Rugby League club, though, will hardly find him taking money out of the club. To be expected for him to put money in from time to time. If he does eventually take over from the Lenagan family and become the majority shareholder, will we have to wait until that time for any meaningful spending to take place?

He won’t.
No club who’s transfer policy relies on signing mercenaries has ever won SL.

Bradford's 2001 Grand Final winning 17 included a grand total of 4 players who had come through their system, their 2003 Grand Final winning 17 had 3. I'm going back to when clubs had the ability to compete more with the NRL clubs for players, but it absolutely has been done before.

A month or so ago, I was looking at the "rich list" in one of the national newspapers and found that the owner of Warrington was in the 129th position. I then went well down the list and found Ian Lenagan who now only has a personal fortune of 19 million which was nowhere the amount he had at the time he bought the club from Dave Whelan.
In view of his present financial position, age and health, the question has got to be asked, Is he now trying to find new investment or even trying to sell the club like Whelan did with Latic's when finances and level of signings started to go downhill.
If Wigan is to remain as the top club on this side of the Pennines and indeed the whole game, new and more finance or even new ownership is a priority!

As much as we don't like to admit it - Saints are us and Leeds are the Yorkshire version of us i.e established clubs with a proud tradition of winning the league and producing some of the games best players.
I'll happily admit my distain for GW and there's no well wishes from me. The fact someone who said "Wigan will always have a place in my heart" now wants to win the league with wire sums him up imo.'"
You must be about 12 years old.....don’t worry, I’ll come down to your level... You didn’t hear us Wire wanting you to lose because your best player in decades was a Wire, who’s idol was Alfie Langer.
