20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| Lam needs to go now, but Lenagan won’t sack him because he’ll have to pay him up to the end of the season.

| Quote: phibes "I was encouraged by the way we played in the cup but yesterday was a huge step backwards. While I agree with comments already made about specific players, what depressed me most was the lack of energy, particularly in that spell in the second half when they killed off the game.
On one hand, I’d question the attitude of the players, which for me, hasn’t been great all season - might be my imagination, but I’m seeing more instances of players are snapping at team mates in 2019, players taking time to get back in the defensive line etc. But then when I look at our structures in both attack and defence, we continue to make life hard for ourselves and easy for opponents. Holding the defensive line and not moving up is gifting metres to the opposition attack. The attack remains as one dimensional as it was under Wane, a lot of one-man carries, shifting wide so slowly that it rarely troubles a sliding defence.
As poor as some individuals were yesterday, the whole team seems locked into patterns and structures that simply don’t work or don’t work often enough. Its sapping energy, composure and discipline from the team.
I was hoping that Lam would transform our attack while maintaining our strong defence. Sadly, based on the evidence so far, he’s failed to do the former and our defence is much worse. I know recruitment’s been poor, I understand why some posters think the coach has been dealt a bad hand, but I still think we should be much better than we are.'"
When you put it that way, it looks as if the problems are much more fundamental than having a few crap players who aren't trying very hard.
Of course, as things are, we have more than a few crap players, and even the ones who aren't crap aren't trying very hard. But all the things you mention are noticeable. We look totally disorganised - those passes to ground yesterday were terrible - give away constant back-to-back penalties (which few others teams do) and seem to lose our heads immediately when things are tough. The way we collapsed in 10 minutes yesterday was exactly like the second half at Castleford and the second half at Wakefield (none of which sides are anything special at all). At present, we have a team who could be ahead by 30 points and I wouldn't be certain of victory until a minute from the end.
Sorry, but Lam is useless. Week after week, Wigan seem totally unprepared for the demands of Superleague. In 2010, Michael Maguire took over a side that under Noble got nowhere near winning anything, and with no new signings turned them into champs in one season. They were the same players but under Maguire they started the season hyper-fit, looking well-drilled, well-oiled, and displaying the sort of controlled but intense aggression that we hadn't seen at Wigan in years.
I know that Maguire had better players, but my point is that a coach who actually knows what he's doing can work wonders. Besides, we can't just replace our cohort of underperforming losers so easily. That'll only happen over a period of years. However, we can change the coach - and the sooner the better.

| Root and branch review and start again. I’d dig deeper than just the coach and part with all the assistants, strength and conditioning staff and recruit better than we have now with a proper due process and not some mates rates put-together boys club we have at the moment.

| All that can't be done in 12 months.
WE have to start with the team and maybe the coach. Lam's situation has to be resolved one way or the other before long. These next four games are crucial.
Are there no mid season signings available? Our pack needs strengthening now not just for next year.
This have to change and will do so. We do need signings that will improve us through be it players and/or coach.

Wandering about La Rambla on Friday . Wandering about La Rambla on Sunday . Playing like they did on Saturday . Sounds more and more like a players jolly that went wrong. I was on La Rambla in a Wigan shirt at 12 noon and was glad I didn't see them I would have been horrified after yesterday . They should have been at Wigan training and being forced to view that horror movie that was the Nou Camp.

I think that's right - at the moment we have fundamental problems in how we attack and defend, the net result of which are poor communication, errors, awful discipline and a soft underbelly, which means we are eminently beatable if the opposition get some momentum regardless of the scoreboard. I was quite happy when Lam joined as coach, but we can't carry on like this regardless of the hand he's been dealt with respect to recruitment. I've no idea why he's been unable to improve our attack while maintaining the high defensive standards from last year. I'd expect a coach schooled in the NRL to at least improve our attack, Wane didn't exactly set the bar that high. It's all very disappointing so far from coach and players - let's just hope we can pick up some points over the next month, if we lose the next four, I honestly don't see how the club could stick with him.

| Absolute shocker made my way up on the train from Salou with a good number of others, great turn out from the fans great atmosphere in Barcelona before the game and in the stadium in the first half. The team were a joke we have forwards with no go forward and a stand off who passes to the turf more often than he does to a team mate.
Combine that with a coach who appears clueless we are in a bad place and like others have said earlier in the thread a major clear out and reset is required urgently.

| I felt sorry for the fans who shelled out for the trip. I'm sure everyone (mostly) managed to have a good time, but they were cheated; the occasion deserved something so much better than that. Losing is one thing, but going down so lamely is quite another.

| What’s more frustrating is Lam will still be in charge until the end of the season so that Lenagan can save money but in doing so is ripping off the fans.

| Lenegan says Lam is still first choice for next year. God help us. Time to move on Mr Lenegan. Lam had enough time now, there should be improvements.

| IL said that about Lam being first choice before the Catalans game.
Hopefully after that 80 mins he will be reconsidering.

Camp Nou was a huge loss of face for Wigan. It was unexpectedly well attended, masses of Wigan fans made the trip, and even the Aussies are sitting up and taking note - and as usual in 2019, the only ones who didn't seem to have read the script about this being a big day for the game were Adrian Lam and his players.
IL must be feeling deeply frustrated, especially on top of all the other terrible performances.
I can't believe that Lam is still favourite now. In fact, if we don't take at least a couple of the next four games, I think (hope) that it's a certainty he'll be gone at the end of the season.
As for IL's comments ... I doubt he would come out and say anything really negative about Lam in mid-season. What would it have said about his discretion if he'd responded to that question with: 'Adrian hasn't got a hope.'?

Spot on.
I didn't expect a win but I didn't expect such a turgid capitulation either.
I don't see what Lam brings and I believe that the players don't rate him either.
A great weekend but a performance that has relegation battle all over it. Apart from ZH and Flower the rest I think we're saving their strength for the booze up after the game. I genuinely don't think that we have player that is a really good rugby player. Gonna be a long season.
